There are a lot of powerful aliens and superhumans in the Marvel universe. Aside from the usual superhuman abilities, magic also exists in Marvel, and there have been quite a number of magic users in the franchise so far. Let’s talk about the two popular magic users in recent years, Scarlet Witch and Doctor Strange. Between these two magic users, who would win?
In the Marvel Universe, it appears that Marvel is heavily hinting that Scarlet Witch can overpower and win against Doctor Strange with her newfound power. On the other hand, Doctor Strange may have the upper hand when it comes to overall control and mental state. However, if fans would just base everything on power level alone, the win would go to Wanda Maximoff.
Wanda still has a lot of personal battles she needs to face and hasn’t matured so much when it comes to character compared to Doctor Strange, who has already placed the World’s safety and balance on the pedestal. Scarlet Witch still does a lot of action based on her personal gains, as seen in WandaVision. But who knows, maybe she has changed after the incident.
Why Is Scarlet Witch Stronger Than Doctor Strange?
As far as the MCU is concerned, it looks as if the studio has already made Scarlet Witch the strongest magic user and the strongest Avenger. In the movie, Avengers: Endgame, Wanda was successfully able to destroy Thanos’ sword, which is rumored to be made out of Dragonite, a metal created in the MCU that might be even stronger than Vibranium.
Her power is not just featured in the movies, but in her’s and Vision’s series called WandaVision, she displayed her powers to a great deal once again. Wanda single handedly managed to create an alternate reality in Westview. In this reality, she managed to control all of the townspeople and create life, her version of Vision, plus her two sons.
At first, she believed her new power was granted due to the Mind Stone. However, she learned through Agatha Harkness that the extent of her magical ability was hers all along. She learned she was the prophesized Scarlet Witch and learned a bit of Chaos Magic in the series by simply watching Agatha Harkness.
When she finally released the spell on the town and her “family,” she left to perfect Chose Magic on her own. Agatha also said that the “Scarlet Witch” is stronger than the Sorcerer Supreme. On top of it all, she is already learning Chaos Magic which is said to be the hardest and most powerful type of magic in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Why Doctor Strange Would Put Up a Good Fight Against Scarlet Witch?
While Scarlet Witch may be stronger, her greatest enemy has always been herself and her lack of control when it comes to her magical abilities. Doctor Strange took time to learn, train, study, and perfect his magic. While he was doing this, he was also improving his control over his own emotions, something Wanda still lacks.
Doctor Strange is also someone who is quite tactical and can probably think of many ways to outsmart the Scarlet Witch. However, there’s still no way to tell if Wanda is still the same after the Westview incident. Wanda may have already learned more about Chaos magic plus control of her own emotional state.
Both of them are also incredibly powerful because they have the power to somehow warp reality. Wanda has shown her capabilities by her control of Westview. Meanwhile, Doctor Strange was shown to distort reality, with conditions in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Who Fared Better in the Fight Against Thanos?
Another good gauge of who has the bigger chance of winning is how they fought against Thanos. Even with the Time Stone in his possession, Doctor Strange had a difficult time fighting Thanos. He didn’t look like he was even able to significantly damage him.
Eventually, Doctor Strange had to rely on the Avengers’ ability to destroy all the stones in the film’s last part. Meanwhile, Wanda looked like she could have even stopped Thanos during Infinity War. After that, she destroyed Thanos’ weapon in the last movie.
Doctor Strange Had a Decrease of Power After the Endgame Movie
Doctor Strange eventually lost the Time Stone at the end of Endgame, meaning he can no longer use its power and has shown not to be able to do some of his reality-bending magic without conditions. Meanwhile, even though Wanda has lost the Mind Stone, it seems her latent ability could rival the Mind Stone in terms of output of power.
It seems she has come out of the Blimp even stronger than before. With knowledge of how to do Chaos Magic after WandaVision, she definitely has the upper hand.
Did Scarlet Witch and Doctor Strange Face-Off in Marvel Comics?
The two have actually faced each other head-on in Avengers: Disassembled. In the story, Wanda has successfully killed several of the Avengers, and the remaining members had to call Doctor Strange to fight her untamed power.
Doctor Strange managed to stop her by using the Eye of Agamotto. However, Scarlet Witch’s power is still much greater than Strange in the comics. It just so happened that Scarlet Witch was in a weaker state of mind at that point in the comics.
Wanda in the MCU looks like she is starting to heal and might be able to fight with a clearer mind in the future. However, we don’t want two of our heroes to fight each other as much as fans know how epic of a showdown it will look.
Will Scarlet Witch fight Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness?
The movie isn’t out yet as of writing, but the trailers hint at a fight between the two magic users. The movie might show Scarlet Witch’s descent to the evil path with how the trailers are going. But perhaps the MCU will surprise us, and Doctor Strange might be able to convince Wanda to go back to the side of the heroes.
Scarlet Witch’s powers will definitely be more useful on the side of good. On the other hand, it’s also possible we might be seeing a result similar to their fight in the comics.
