Does Roscoe Return in ‘Reacher’? Willa Fitzgerald’s Departure Explained
Fans of Amazon’s ‘Reacher’ quickly became enamored with the chemistry between Jack Reacher and Margrave police officer Roscoe Conklin during the show’s first season. The dynamic between Willa Fitzgerald’s character and Alan Ritchson’s towering ex-military cop added emotional depth to the crime thriller, prompting many viewers to wonder if she would make a return.
The short answer is no; Roscoe Conklin has not appeared in either ‘Reacher’ season 2 or season 3, and there’s a specific reason tied to the source material that clarifies her absence.
In ‘Reacher’ season 1, based on the novel ‘Killing Floor’, Jack Reacher investigates a local conspiracy with police officers Oscar Finlay and Roscoe Conklin while seeking justice for his brother’s murder. Roscoe, portrayed by Willa Fitzgerald, was a sergeant with the Margrave Police Department who became involved in Reacher’s quest to uncover corruption and murder in the small Georgia town.
Throughout the season, Roscoe and Reacher developed a romantic connection, but he ultimately leaves town at the season’s conclusion, receiving her phone number and an open invitation to return. Their parting was amicable, with Reacher suggesting Roscoe consider running for mayor and Roscoe encouraging him to reach out whenever he wanted.
While this ending provided a satisfying closure for the character, it also left fans wondering if the show would revisit her storyline.
Roscoe’s absence in season 2 stems from the fact that Jack Reacher moves away from Margrave, her hometown, and the show adheres closely to the book series it is based on. The character does not appear in the subsequent Jack Reacher stories after ‘Killing Floor’, the book that season one adapted.
Season 2 follows the novel ‘Bad Luck and Trouble’, and future seasons will continue to adapt different books, none of which include Roscoe. Therefore, her departure was not a creative decision made on set; it was a predetermined aspect of the source material.

Showrunner Nick Santora has confirmed that Roscoe will not be returning, and even author Lee Child has reportedly voiced disappointment about her exclusion from future seasons. Reintroducing Finlay and Roscoe would necessitate significant deviations from Lee Child’s books, which the show has been careful to avoid.
Interestingly, Willa Fitzgerald was aware of this outcome, stating in an interview that she always understood her character would only have a one-season arc. Thus, while fans were saddened by Roscoe’s departure, it was not unexpected behind the scenes.
Season 2 does see the return of Chief of Detectives Oscar Finlay, played by Malcolm Goodwin, but Roscoe is mentioned only briefly. She is referenced in an awkward exchange with Karla Dixon, appearing in season 2 in name only.
That single mention served as a reminder to fans of how much they missed her, yet it did not lead to an actual appearance.
‘Reacher’ season 3 concluded on March 27, 2025, and once again, Roscoe did not make an appearance, despite audience hopes for her return. Given that Reacher and Roscoe would have been apart for over two years by that point, assuming they did not reconnect between seasons, the emotional distance only widened with each passing installment.
There remains a glimmer of hope for fans who have not given up on a reunion. Willa Fitzgerald has mentioned that she has not received any updates from the creative team regarding Roscoe’s potential return, suggesting that people should “ask Nick Santora” about it, while she remains open to the possibility.
The show’s creator has reportedly been receptive to the idea of bringing Finlay and Roscoe back, though integrating them into future storylines could be challenging and might not be worthwhile given the structure of the books. Nevertheless, television adaptations often take liberties with their source material, and ‘Reacher’ has already demonstrated some flexibility by including Finlay for a cameo.
For now, Roscoe Conklin remains a cherished part of ‘Reacher’ rather than an ongoing character, but the door has not been completely shut. Whether Amazon and Nick Santora will find a reason to reintroduce her into Jack Reacher’s life remains uncertain.
Do you think ‘Reacher’ should alter its book-accurate approach to bring Roscoe back into Jack’s story, or is her season one farewell best left as is?
