San Diego Comic Con has always been the venue for Marvel Studios’ biggest surprises, and this year’s Hall H panel for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ was no exception. With the film’s theatrical release still months away, fans inside the convention center were treated to exclusive footage that left the audience buzzing with excitement.

Kevin Feige, along with directors Joe and Anthony Russo, introduced nearly two dozen cast members before showcasing exclusive footage that significantly expanded on the film’s previously released trailer. The sequence reframed just how formidable Robert Downey Jr’s Victor Von Doom is becoming.

The clip began with Sue Storm, portrayed by Vanessa Kirby, narrating Doom’s backstory, depicting him as once the smartest person in any room, before tragedy transformed him into one of Marvel’s most dangerous villains. This setup led to a confrontation between Doom and Reed Richards, played by Pedro Pascal, who directly questioned Victor about the devastation surrounding them.

The footage then transitioned to an intense clash between Doom and Chris Hemsworth’s Thor. According to various outlets covering the panel, Thor charged at Doom with Stormbreaker, declaring that Doom would beg for hell long before he ever grants it. In a stunning display, Doom effortlessly stopped the weapon with just two fingers and blasted Thor backward with a surge of green energy.

This exchange culminated in the sequence’s most talked-about moment. Doom delivered his now-viral retort, chillingly stating that hell answers to him, just before placing his hand on the ground and resurrecting a group of broken Sentinels, the mutant-hunting robots first introduced in the X-Men film series.

The footage also featured appearances from Magneto, Cyclops, Gambit, Steve Rogers, Shang-Chi, and Shuri as Black Panther, highlighting the film’s massive ensemble cast. A display case at the convention even showcased a defeated Sentinel with a damaged, wired-open head, suggesting that the heroes eventually find a way to combat Doom’s mechanical army.

Adding to the excitement of the panel, attendees witnessed a surprise cameo from someone in a gray, denim-like Deadpool costume, who sounded remarkably like Ryan Reynolds, humorously expressing a desire to be included in the film. When later questioned, the Russos confirmed that filming has already wrapped but that they remain open to additional photography, sparking speculation about Deadpool’s potential involvement.

Beyond the ‘Doomsday’ footage, Marvel made several other significant announcements during the panel, including the confirmation that ‘Black Panther 3’ will premiere on December 15, 2028, with David Jonsson taking on the role of T’Challa’s son. The studio also announced Ryan Gosling as the new Ghost Rider, with Shawn Levy directing that project following ‘Secret Wars.’

With ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ set to hit theaters on December 18, fans will likely have to wait until D23 next month for their next substantial look at the film. For now, Doom’s chilling declaration has already secured its place as one of the most discussed moments from this year’s Comic Con.

‘Avengers: Doomsday’ arrives in theaters on December 18.
