‘Elle’ Teaser Trailer Reveals Legally Blonde Prequel Focusing on Elle Woods’ High School Years
Prime Video has unveiled the first teaser for ‘Elle,’ a new series that revisits the early life of Elle Woods. This show acts as a prequel to the beloved comedy ‘Legally Blonde,’ which originally featured Reese Witherspoon in the lead role.
Set to premiere on July 1, the series will delve into Elle’s high school years, showcasing how her personality and confidence began to develop long before her college days. Even before its debut, the series has already been renewed for a second season by Amazon’s streaming platform.
Newcomer Lexi Minetree takes on the titular role, stepping into the shoes of a younger Elle after previously appearing in smaller roles in shows like ‘Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.’ The cast also features June Diane Raphael as Elle’s mother and Tom Everett Scott as her father.
Several familiar faces will join the series in recurring roles, including Chandler Kinney, Logan Shroyer, and James Van Der Beek, among others.
Production on ‘Elle’ commenced in April 2025, with Witherspoon announcing the start of filming online. She expressed her excitement for the project and hinted at the challenges high school life presents for the character. The series is created by Laura Kittrell, who serves as co-showrunner alongside Caroline Dries, with Jason Moore directing the initial episodes. Witherspoon also takes on the role of executive producer.
The aim of the series is to explore the pivotal moments that shaped Elle into the confident young woman fans adore from the original film.
This prequel has the potential to engage both long-time fans and new viewers. Revisiting Elle’s teenage years could provide deeper insights into a character that audiences already cherish. However, prequels can be challenging if they fail to introduce fresh elements. The success will hinge on how well the narrative resonates with contemporary audiences.
