Elon Musk Critiques Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ Over Lupita Nyong’o Casting
Tech billionaire Elon Musk has ramped up his criticism of Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film ‘The Odyssey’, particularly targeting its casting decisions and overall creative direction.
Earlier this year, Musk expressed his concerns when rumors about Lupita Nyong’o’s casting began to circulate. His remarks have resurfaced with renewed intensity following the confirmation that Nyong’o will portray Helen of Troy, as well as Clytemnestra, Helen’s sister and Agamemnon’s wife.
In response to discussions surrounding the casting, Musk aligned himself with conservative commentator Matt Walsh, who questioned Nyong’o’s suitability for the role of Helen of Troy. Musk simply replied, “True.”

Musk suggested that Nolan’s casting choices might be swayed by a desire for awards recognition. He commented that Nolan “wants the awards,” indicating that contemporary industry standards regarding representation could be influencing these decisions.

Musk has made several posts criticizing both the film and its casting choices, including remarks aimed at Elliot Page, who previously collaborated with Nolan on ‘Inception’. Some of these reposted comments included personal attacks that gained traction on social media.

The discourse began months ago when Musk first reacted to speculation regarding Nyong’o’s role. At that time, he shared and responded to posts asserting that the casting would not align with traditional descriptions of Helen of Troy from Greek mythology.
He previously stated, “Chris Nolan has lost his integrity.”
A recent report from Time has confirmed that Nyong’o will indeed take on the roles of Helen of Troy and Clytemnestra in ‘The Odyssey’. This film is a grand adaptation of Homer’s epic and stands as one of Nolan’s most awaited projects.
This situation has sparked ongoing debates online about modern casting practices in historical and mythological adaptations, especially in high-profile films with significant global audiences.
‘The Odyssey’ is currently set for theatrical release on July 17.
