Ewan McGregor Shares Candid Update on ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ Season 2
Star Wars enthusiasts have long been eager for another installment of one of the franchise’s most cherished streaming series. The reunion of two iconic actors from the prequel trilogy left fans yearning for more as soon as the credits rolled.
This lingering desire has persisted, especially since the show concluded with an ending that clearly hints at further adventures. Between the finale’s last scene and the character’s eventual role in the original trilogy, there’s a decade of untold stories waiting to be explored.
Ewan McGregor has now provided another update, though it’s not quite what fans were hoping for. In a conversation with Entertainment Weekly, McGregor confirmed that both he and Hayden Christensen are still interested in reprising their roles for a second season of ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi,’ but he lamented, “Come on, Disney. Come on. I don’t think we are closer to that, no. I don’t know of any progress in that direction.”
He didn’t stop there. McGregor also suggested a specific direction for where a follow-up season could begin, referencing the series’ final moments as a natural starting point. “We finished this series with me walking off with Liam Neeson on my camel, which is an Eopie,” he explained. “And then what happens between then and when it’s Alec Guinness, I mean, there’s got to be a good few stories left to tell.”
The mention of Liam Neeson is significant. His appearance as Qui-Gon Jinn’s Force Ghost in the finale indicated that Obi-Wan still had training ahead, particularly in mastering how to become a Force Ghost himself—a skill he would need before confronting Darth Vader in ‘Star Wars: A New Hope.’
It has been four years since ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ premiered, and speculation about a second season has accompanied the show throughout its run. Unlike other Star Wars series that received definitive conclusions or clear cancellations, ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ has remained in a peculiar limbo, classified as a limited series but never officially ruled out for more.

Christensen’s ongoing interest adds another dimension to the discussion, as a potential second season could bring Darth Vader back into the narrative. Given how both actors have embraced nostalgia surrounding their prequel-era characters in recent years, from panel appearances to playful lightsaber reenactments at fan conventions, it’s evident that neither has completely closed the door on a return.
However, McGregor’s previous statements on this matter complicate the situation. He had once insisted he wouldn’t return to the franchise at all before ultimately signing on for the original series, so his cautious optimism should be taken with a grain of salt. Whether Disney will greenlight anything remains uncertain, with no official updates reported from the studio.
For now, ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ stands as a one-season story, even as its stars continue to hint at the possibility of more. Fans will likely keep a close eye on every interview for the next clue of movement.
