Brad Pitt has candidly shared insights about one of the most challenging times in his life, revealing that family issues left him feeling overwhelmed and uncertain about the future.

In a recent interview with Esquire, Pitt discussed the emotional burden of what he referred to as “family stuff.” While he chose not to elaborate on every detail, his remarks come in the wake of years of public tension related to his divorce from Angelina Jolie and the evolving dynamics with some of their children.

Pitt admitted there was a moment when the pain became so profound that he could understand why someone might contemplate suicide.

“I’ve never been suicidal except for one little period,” Pitt shared with Esquire. “And in that one little period, I just thought—I just couldn’t—just didn’t see a way out.”

He described the emotional anguish as nearly inescapable, revealing a troubling thought about death, while clarifying that he had no intention of acting on it.

“The pain was so oppressive that—I wasn’t going to act on this, but I could feel—I could feel the cold steel of the bullet in my head, and it felt like relief,” he explained.

For Pitt, this experience was less about a desire to end his life and more about a longing for the pain to cease.

“And I thought, Oh, okay, now I understand—I understand suicide, in the sense that it’s just relief. It’s just looking for relief from the pain,” he noted. He added that his survival instincts quickly kicked in. “But I also think we have incredible survival instincts. And for me, that immediately kicked in,” Pitt remarked.

Pitt’s comments come after a prolonged and challenging family chapter. His marriage to Jolie ended in 2016, leading to a highly publicized and complex divorce. The former couple shares six children, and their family dynamics have continued to draw public interest over the years.

Some of their children have also chosen to stop using Pitt’s last name, adding another layer of complexity to an already difficult situation.

While the actor did not delve into specifics about his relationships with each of his children during the Esquire interview, he broadly referred to the period as “family stuff,” opting not to provide a detailed account of his private life.

Nevertheless, his reflections offer a rare insight into the depth of his struggles during that time.

Pitt has previously discussed making significant changes in his life and confronting personal challenges away from the public eye. In the same Esquire interview, he acknowledged his relationship with alcohol, admitting that he is no longer completely sober after previously achieving seven years of sobriety.

His recent comments highlight that, despite his fame and professional achievements, Pitt has faced profoundly painful moments in his personal life.

As he continues to work on new films, the actor seems increasingly open to discussing some of these difficult experiences while still keeping many aspects of his family life private.
