Fans Spot Matt Damon at Disneyland During Family Outing
Theme parks have a unique way of making celebrities feel like just another face in the crowd, waiting for character meet-and-greets. This past weekend at Disneyland, one family’s ordinary outing turned into an unexpected viral moment.
Comedian Loryn Powell shared a video on Instagram documenting her young daughter’s first meeting with Goofy at Goofy’s Kitchen inside the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim. In the clip, Powell’s husband kneels beside their daughter as Goofy, dressed in his signature chef attire, approaches to greet the excited toddler, who lights up, waves, and eventually hugs the character.
Later, the family discovered that Matt Damon was also present in the footage. Standing just a few feet behind them, arms crossed and smiling, was the actor, casually dressed in a gray shirt, white pants, and a black baseball cap.
Powell humorously captioned the clip, noting the accidental celebrity cameo: “POV you’re watching your husband and daughter meet Goofy for the first time but don’t realize Matt Damon is also watching your husband and daughter meet Goofy for the first time.” She added, “When your daughter is more starstruck by Goofy than Matt Damon.”
Fans quickly recognized Damon’s low-key presence, with some initially questioning if it was really him. They pointed out a detail: his cap read “Artists Equity,” the production company he co-founded with Ben Affleck, confirming the sighting for skeptical viewers.
Reactions to the video were overwhelmingly sentimental, with many commenters noting how genuinely present Damon appeared. One fan remarked, “Aww and you can tell he was reminiscing on his babies meeting Goofy for the first time,” while another joked that Powell should add “Introduction to Goofy, witnessed by Matt Damon” to her résumé.
Interestingly, Damon had his own reason for being at Disneyland that day. He was spotted at the park alongside his wife, Luciana Barroso, and their daughters, celebrating Gia’s 18th birthday with family and friends.
Photos from the outing showed the family in matching “Birthday Crew” shirts in front of the park’s giant Mickey Mouse pumpkin display on Main Street, U.S.A. It’s unclear if Damon’s appearance in Powell’s video was during that same visit, as there were some differences in his outfit, but the timing suggests he was deep into a family-focused trip.
Powell later reflected on the special outing, emphasizing how magical it was for her family, regardless of the unexpected celebrity cameo. “As you can tell we love dressing up for a good theme, so taking our 2.5-year-old daughter to Disneyland for her first time was magical,” she said, adding, “Even if Matt Damon hadn’t been there.”
This wholesome mix-up comes shortly after Damon candidly discussed financial struggles earlier in his career. For fans, this latest viral moment offers a lighter glimpse into his life, portraying the Oscar winner as just another dad enjoying the Happiest Place on Earth.
