First Look at Doctor Doom’s ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Funko Pop Figure Unveiled
Marvel Studios has carefully managed the reveal of Doctor Doom as the next major villain in the Multiverse Saga. The announcement of Robert Downey Jr. as the iconic character sparked immediate excitement, and the studio has gradually shared glimpses of his new look through various promotional materials, including official posters and international marketing events.
This marketing strategy extends beyond traditional methods, with merchandise becoming a key way for fans to preview character designs. Funko Pop figures, in particular, have emerged as unofficial spoilers for major franchise films, often showcasing costume and character details ahead of official trailers.
This trend continues with the recent reveal of the Doctor Doom Funko Pop figure for ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ which will be available starting October 4. The figure features Downey’s portrayal of the villain, complete with his signature metallic mask and dark green cloak, and includes a weapon that suggests his technologically advanced combat style.
The October release of the figure comes well in advance of the film’s theatrical debut, offering collectors and fans a sneak peek at Doom’s design more than two months before ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ hits theaters. Marvel and Funko have prominently featured Doom in the film’s marketing, highlighting the significance of Downey’s performance to the storyline.
This isn’t the first look at Doom-related merchandise prior to the film’s release. Iron Studios previously showcased a range of collectible figures at San Diego Comic-Con, including a quarter-scale Doom figure along with statues of Patrick Stewart’s Professor X and Ian McKellen’s Magneto, providing fans an early glimpse into how the film’s X-Men narrative may integrate with the overall plot.
Retail listings indicate a broader collection of ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Funko Pops will be released around the same time, with reports suggesting figures for Thor, Mr. Fantastic, Magneto, Cyclops, Gambit, Shang-Chi, Namor, and Yelena Belova set to launch in the months leading up to the film’s premiere. This extensive merchandise rollout reflects the film’s massive ensemble cast, which includes characters from the Avengers, X-Men, and Fantastic Four.
In the film, Downey’s Doctor Doom is expected to play a pivotal role as a super-genius ruler of Latveria on an alternate Earth, convinced he is the only one capable of averting a multiversal crisis caused by reality incursions. This characterization positions Doom as a morally complex antagonist rather than a straightforward villain, a dynamic that has already sparked significant fan discussion since his casting was announced.
‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is directed by the Russo Brothers and produced through their AGBO banner in collaboration with Kevin Feige and Louis D’Esposito, culminating years of setup throughout the MCU’s Multiverse Saga. The film is scheduled to premiere in theaters and IMAX on December 18, with its sequel, ‘Avengers: Secret Wars,’ already slated for December 17, 2027.
With much of the film’s marketing focusing on Doom-centric imagery, this new Funko Pop reveal aligns perfectly with a strategy aimed at keeping the villain at the forefront of fan discussions as the holiday release approaches. Collectors eager to see Downey’s interpretation of the character will have the chance to do so before the movie’s release.
