The series is being developed by creators Brian Gatewood and Alessandro Tanaka, with Rick Morales directing and Jonathan Hoekstra handling artistic direction. Brian Tee leads the voice cast as Jiro, joined by Garret Dillahunt and others.
A recent image from the Annecy International Animation Festival showcases the show’s unique visual style, capturing the essence of the original graphic novel. While an official release date hasn’t been announced, fans can look forward to a thrilling blend of action, food culture, and dark humor.
Get Jiro! is based on the graphic novel written by Anthony Bourdain and Joel Rose, with illustrations by Langdon Foss and Alé Garza.
The graphic novel was first published in 2012 by DC/Vertigo and became a New York Times bestseller. Now, Adult Swim is adapting it into a half-hour animated series.
The show is set in a future version of Los Angeles, where Jiro, a mysterious sushi chef, becomes the center of a violent culinary world. People are willing to kill to get a reservation at his popular restaurant. The series is created by Alessandro Tanaka and Brian Gatewood, known for their work on the A24 movie Sharper and the NBC show Superstore.
