First Look at Morena Baccarin as the Sorceress in ‘Masters of the Universe’
A fresh glimpse of Morena Baccarin as the Sorceress in the upcoming Masters of the Universe film has generated buzz as this long-awaited fantasy project approaches its release.
Masters of the Universe is a sword and sorcery movie directed by Travis Knight, with a script penned by Chris Butler, Aaron and Adam Nee, and David Callaham. This film, based on the iconic Mattel franchise, marks the second live-action adaptation following the 1987 version and features a large ensemble cast for a new interpretation of the world of Eternia.
In this film, Nicholas Galitzine stars as Prince Adam, also known as He-Man. The narrative follows Adam’s return to Eternia after many years, only to find his homeland in ruins and under the dominion of Skeletor, a formidable warlord and sorcerer. To rescue Eternia and prevent the universe’s destruction, he must embrace his true identity as He-Man.
Morena Baccarin portrays the Sorceress, a pivotal magical character in the storyline. She is intricately linked to the safeguarding of Castle Grayskull and plays a crucial role in guiding the heroes. The character is depicted as possessing profound magical knowledge and strong ties to Eternia’s history, further enhanced by her connection to Teela, which adds emotional depth to the plot.
The film boasts a star-studded cast, including Camila Mendes as Teela, Idris Elba as Man-At-Arms, Jared Leto as Skeletor, Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn, James Purefoy as King Randor, and Kristen Wiig voicing Roboto. It also features numerous other characters from the original franchise, uniting both heroes and villains in this tale.
The production of Masters of the Universe has experienced numerous changes over the years. Initially, the project was with Sony Pictures in 2009, later transitioning to Netflix in 2022. In 2024, Amazon MGM Studios acquired the rights and appointed Travis Knight as director. This latest iteration of the film has progressed with a new cast and creative team.
Filming occurred in London from January to June 2025, with the premiere taking place at the TCL Chinese Theatre on May 18. The film is now slated for a theatrical release in the United States on June 5, with international distribution managed by Sony Pictures Releasing International.
The plot centers on Prince Adam’s journey back to Eternia after being away from his royal life for 15 years. The Sword of Power brings him home, but he discovers a devastated world ruled by Skeletor. With the assistance of allies like Teela and Man-At-Arms, Adam must accept his destiny and strive to restore balance.
Morena Baccarin’s portrayal of the Sorceress is anticipated to be a vital magical presence in this conflict. Her character bridges the mystical elements of Eternia with the primary struggle between He-Man and Skeletor, making her integral to the film’s world-building.
As excitement builds, this first look adds another layer of intrigue to a project that has been in development for over a decade and is finally making its way to theaters.
