Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is the much-anticipated 2025 sequel to Blumhouse’s successful horror adaptation of Scott Cawthon’s beloved video game series. Directed by Emma Tammi, this film continues the gripping tale of Mike, Vanessa, and Abby as they confront the haunting aftermath of the tragic events at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. The sequel not only amplifies the franchise’s blend of supernatural horror and animatronic fright but also delves deeper into the intricate mythology surrounding the haunted eatery and its long-buried secrets.

The film brings back fan-favorite stars Josh Hutcherson, Elizabeth Lail, Piper Rubio, and Matthew Lillard, while also introducing new cast members such as McKenna Grace, Wayne Knight, and Skeet Ulrich. Released in theaters on December 5th, 2025, the movie was a box office triumph, raking in over 239 million dollars globally against a modest production budget. Despite receiving mixed reviews from critics, it resonated well with fans and has continued its journey through various streaming platforms, now set to debut on Netflix US as part of Universal’s standard Pay-1 distribution agreement.

The official streaming date for Netflix US is confirmed for August 3rd, 2026, according to What’s on Netflix, marking an exciting addition to the platform’s lineup.

This sequel significantly expands the franchise’s universe, exploring the origins of Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza and the sinister forces at play. Matthew Lillard reprises his role as William Afton, a pivotal character in the franchise’s lore. The addition of new actors like McKenna Grace, Wayne Knight, and Skeet Ulrich further enhances the star-studded cast of this horror series.

Financially, the film has proven to be another significant success for Blumhouse and Universal. It debuted with 63 million dollars in its opening weekend and ultimately grossed around 239.6 million dollars worldwide. With a production budget estimated between 36 and 51 million dollars, the sequel has yielded impressive profits, despite a mixed critical reception. Critics noted the film’s heavy reliance on game lore, which may not resonate with casual viewers, but dedicated fans of the franchise have remained highly engaged.

The Netflix release aligns with Universal’s standard Pay-1 streaming strategy. After its theatrical run, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 first became available on Peacock, launching on April 3rd, 2026. Following a four-month exclusive period on that platform, it will transition to Netflix US starting August 3rd.

Once it arrives on Netflix, the film will be accessible for a ten-month duration before returning to Peacock as part of the extended 18-month licensing agreement. This release pattern has become a norm for Universal’s major titles, particularly within the horror and animated genres.
