Andor, the Star Wars series on Disney+, isn’t just about space battles and rebels. The show talks about real-life ideas too, like fighting for freedom, standing up to unfair governments, and how regular people can make a big difference.

Forest Whitaker, who plays Saw Gerrera, says those themes feel very real today. Many fans and actors see parts of our world in the story Andor tells.

Whitaker recently attended Andor premiere and the actor stated that Andor’s core themes hit close to home even in the context of our current world.

I think like this thing is like an ancient myth that’s been going on forever. It’s like the proletariat or the weak or the disenfranchised fighting against the world to be able to get their rights and stuff,” the actor said.

Whitaker also previously commented on his character. He says Saw is a character who does whatever it takes to fight the Empire, even if it means using extreme methods. Whitaker doesn’t see Saw as a terrorist but as someone doing what he believes is right to save the galaxy.

Even though he’s played Saw in other Star Wars shows and movies, Whitaker says the role is still hard. He’s still learning more about who Saw really is, his pain, his choices, and the people he’s lost, like his sister Steela. In Season 2, we’ll get to see more of what made Saw the way he is in Rogue One.
