Gary Oldman Hints at Who Will Play the Next James Bond
The quest for the next 007 has become one of Hollywood’s most enduring mysteries, continuing since Daniel Craig retired his tuxedo. With Amazon MGM Studios now at the helm of the franchise, speculation has surged regarding who will take on this legendary role.
This weekend, the speculation escalated thanks to an unexpected source. Gary Oldman, who is currently promoting the new season of ‘Slow Horses,’ found himself answering questions about his co-star’s rumored connections to the Bond franchise.
In an interview with Canada’s Global network, Oldman disclosed that a new James Bond has already been selected, although the studio has yet to make an official announcement. He expressed his hope that the chosen actor is none other than his ‘Slow Horses’ co-star Jack Lowden.
Oldman mentioned that Lowden is rumored to be on the shortlist, adding that everyone will learn the truth soon because Amazon has already picked him, even if the studio hasn’t confirmed it yet. He concluded his remarks by saying he is rooting for Jack.
It’s important to note that Oldman’s comments left some ambiguity. It remains unclear whether he was specifically confirming Lowden’s casting or simply indicating that Amazon MGM Studios has made a decision without revealing names.
Oldman and Lowden have been working together on ‘Slow Horses’ since 2022, allowing the veteran actor to witness his co-star’s rising stardom. Lowden has been gaining traction this year, with appearances in ‘Rogue Trooper’ and upcoming projects like ‘Pride and Prejudice’ and ‘Berlin Noir.’
This isn’t the first time Lowden’s name has come up in connection with Bond. Podcast host Richard Osman previously claimed on ‘The Rest Is Entertainment’ that a source informed him Lowden was the actor chosen for the role, adding that he believed Lowden would bring a similar energy to the character as Daniel Craig did.
Casting rumors have also surrounded several other actors during this process. Reports indicated that auditions took place in August, with producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman, along with director Denis Villeneuve, meeting with a shortlist that reportedly included Harris Dickinson, Callum Turner, and Jacob Elordi alongside Lowden.
Villeneuve is set to direct the upcoming film, with ‘Peaky Blinders’ creator Steven Knight writing the script, ensuring a prestigious team behind the new Bond era. Amazon MGM Studios has not publicly responded to Oldman’s comments, and representatives have been contacted for further clarification.
Whether Oldman’s remarks were an accidental leak or an educated guess from someone well-connected in the British acting scene remains to be seen. For now, fans eager for an official Bond announcement will have to continue waiting, though Oldman’s comments have certainly added new fuel to the ongoing speculation.
