‘Gilmore Girls’ Leaving Netflix Soon, Here’s Where to Watch Next
Gilmore Girls is set to depart from Netflix on July 1, concluding its long tenure on the streaming service where it has been cherished for over a decade. This announcement has taken many fans by surprise, as they have continued to revisit the beloved series throughout the years.
Created by Amy Sherman-Palladino, the show originally aired in the early 2000s. It centers around the close bond between single mother Lorelai Gilmore and her daughter Rory as they navigate life in the quaint town of Stars Hollow, Connecticut. Known for its rapid-fire dialogue and emotional storytelling, the series explores themes of family dynamics, personal growth, and the everyday challenges faced by individuals from various social backgrounds.
Years after its original run ended in 2007, Netflix became the new home for Gilmore Girls. The series has remained one of the platform’s most rewatched comfort shows, attracting both loyal fans and newcomers discovering it for the first time. However, the streaming rights for the show are expected to expire, leading to its removal from Netflix.
This departure is reportedly linked to the conclusion of licensing agreements. As streaming services frequently update their content based on contracts, Gilmore Girls has reached a point where Netflix can no longer retain it in its library. Some reports indicate that the series may transition to another platform after leaving Netflix, with HBO Max frequently mentioned as a potential new destination.
The original series concluded after seven seasons in 2007. According to Variety, various behind-the-scenes factors contributed to its ending, including financial disputes, scheduling conflicts, and contract negotiations with cast members. Despite these challenges, the show has maintained a devoted fanbase long after its finale.
In 2016, the story was revived with Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, which brought back many original characters. Released as a limited series, it did not extend beyond its initial installment. Actress Lauren Graham has shared in interviews that no further continuation is planned, and the cast has not been approached for another revival.
She also reflected on the possibility of revisiting the story, stating, “I don’t know if there is a need to do more. I would never want it to feel like we overstayed our welcome… There’s probably a way to keep these characters alive, but I don’t know if that’s the best thing for them.”

Although Netflix will no longer host the series after July 1, Gilmore Girls is still accessible on other platforms in certain regions. Depending on your location, viewers might find it available on services like Disney+, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, or Apple TV+.
For now, fans eager to rewatch the series on Netflix have a limited time left before it vanishes from the platform, marking the end of an era for one of television’s most cherished comfort shows.
