Greta Gerwig’s ‘Narnia The Magician’s Nephew’ Cast Revealed with Surprising Names
Greta Gerwig’s ‘Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew’ has officially confirmed its full cast, showcasing one of the most impressive lineups seen in a fantasy film in recent years.
Netflix has unveiled the complete ensemble along with the film’s new release date, and the names involved elevate this project from a mere children’s adventure to a prestigious cinematic event.
David McKenna and Beatrice Campbell will portray the young protagonists, Digory Kirke and Polly Plummer, with these newcomers anchoring an otherwise star-studded cast. Emma Mackey takes on the role of Jadis, the villainous White Witch and the last Queen of the dying world of Charn, while Daniel Craig plays Uncle Andrew, the morally ambiguous magician who sets the story in motion.

Meryl Streep lends her voice to Aslan, the cosmic lion whose song brings Narnia into existence, making it one of the most fitting casting choices in the film, especially given Gerwig’s own fascination with that iconic image from the book. Carey Mulligan will portray Mabel Kirke, while Ciarán Hinds and Kobna Holdbrook-Smith complete the principal cast alongside Denise Gough and Susan Wokoma.
The casting process spanned over a year, with Emma Mackey securing the role of the White Witch amidst competition from Margaret Qualley and Charli XCX, and Streep’s voice casting being confirmed only recently. Filming concluded in January of this year, with production taking place in London, Manchester, and studio work at Shepperton and Longcross Studios.
Gerwig, reflecting on her connection to the source material, described the central idea of a lion singing a world into existence as something that “always lived in my heart,” calling the opportunity to bring this story to the screen “the honor of a lifetime.” With Mackey as the villain, Craig as the morally compromised sorcerer, and Streep voicing a cosmic creator, Gerwig seems to have crafted the film she envisioned.
This film marks Netflix’s first full wide theatrical release with a proper theatrical window, set to hit IMAX and cinemas worldwide on February 12, 2027, before streaming on the platform starting April 2, 2027.
The score will be composed by Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt, who previously created the music for Gerwig’s ‘Barbie’, which grossed over $1.4 billion globally. Whether ‘Narnia’ can achieve a similar cultural impact remains to be seen, but with this cast and director, the foundation is undeniably remarkable.
