The casting process for HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter television series is progressing as development for Season 2 continues. According to a report from Deadline, casting directors Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann are currently seeking a young actor to portray Colin Creevey, a beloved Hogwarts student from the original book series.

This information comes from Deadline, which states that auditions are already in progress, with some actors moving on to recall stages in the casting process. HBO has yet to comment on this report.

Colin Creevey is a Gryffindor student who first appears in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. He is characterized by his enthusiastic demeanor and his deep admiration for Harry Potter. In J.K. Rowling’s books, Colin is frequently seen with a camera, capturing moments around Hogwarts as if living a dream. He becomes a recurring character throughout the series, participating in significant events like the resistance against Dolores Umbridge and the Battle of Hogwarts.

Previously, the character was portrayed by actor Hugh Mitchell in the 2002 film Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, but he did not return for the subsequent films. The upcoming HBO series aims to adapt all seven books in their entirety, suggesting that characters like Colin Creevey will have more developed roles compared to the original films.

This casting news follows recent reports that Ginny Weasley is also being recast for Season 2. According to Deadline, the previous actress Gracie Cochrane has stepped down from the role. Her family released a statement expressing, “Her time as part of the Harry Potter world has been truly wonderful, and she is deeply grateful to Lucy Bevan and the entire production team for creating such an unforgettable experience.”

The series is being developed as a long-form adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s books, with Francesca Gardiner serving as showrunner and executive producer. Mark Mylod is also attached as executive producer and director for several episodes. The production is backed by HBO in collaboration with Brontë Film and TV and Warner Bros. Television, with additional executive producers including J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts, and David Heyman.

Filming for Season 2 is anticipated to commence in the United Kingdom later this year, according to the same report. The series will be available for streaming on HBO Max and is part of HBO’s broader initiative to expand the Wizarding World for television.

While HBO has not confirmed the search for the Colin Creevey casting, the report indicates that the show is focused on developing Hogwarts characters in greater depth as it delves deeper into the book storyline.
