Wrestling dramas often struggle to find new life on network television after cancellation, which is why fans of ‘Heels’ have clung to hope for the past two years. The Starz series garnered a loyal following for its raw portrayal of independent wrestling and the family dynamics intertwined within it, and that support remained strong even after the show was canceled.

This hope was not unfounded. In 2024, Netflix secured a licensing deal to stream both seasons of ‘Heels’, which sparked speculation that strong viewership could lead the platform to renew the show for a third season, following a trend of reviving canceled series.

However, that possibility has now officially closed. Netflix has decided against reviving ‘Heels’ for a season 3 after the first two seasons were made available on Netflix US two years ago, with the series set to leave the platform entirely in September 2026.

Removal notices on Netflix confirm that both seasons of ‘Heels’ will exit Netflix US on September 15, 2026, marking the end of the show’s two-year licensing agreement with Lionsgate and Starz. This type of licensed pickup typically follows a strict timeline, and with the 24-month contract now expiring, there are no signs that Netflix plans to extend it or renew the series.

The hope for a revival was not merely fan wishful thinking. Showrunner Mike O’Malley and the cast actively encouraged viewers to watch the show on Netflix, with the belief that strong enough numbers could lead to a renewal. Even WWE star CM Punk, who portrayed Ricky Rabies, hinted in interviews that a larger audience could justify bringing ‘Heels’ back.

Unfortunately, that broader audience never fully emerged. While the show developed a dedicated fanbase on Netflix, it reportedly did not achieve the global viewership numbers necessary for the streamer to consider picking up a canceled series.

Star Stephen Amell has continued to advocate for the series, even as the situation grew more uncertain. During the Arrowverse Heroes panel at Motor City Comic Con, moderated by Joe Deckelmeier for ScreenRant, the actor expressed his hope that ‘Heels’ would have four or five seasons, highlighting the unfinished stories the cast and crew still wanted to explore.

‘Heels’ is not the first series to find itself in this predicament. Netflix has previously acquired licensing rights for shows like ‘Warrior’ and ‘Scavengers Reign’ with hopes of strong performance justifying their continuation, only to ultimately decide against renewal, establishing a concerning trend for shows seeking a Netflix revival.

With the September 15 departure date confirmed, fans have a limited opportunity to revisit the stories of Jack and Ace Spade within the Duffy Wrestling League before they disappear from the platform for good. Whether ‘Heels’ will find a new home in the future remains uncertain, but for now, its chapter on Netflix is closing in a manner all too familiar for shows hoping for a second chance.
