Henry Cavill and Kevin Hart are set to star together in a new untitled action comedy project at Netflix. This film is being developed as a high-concept story that blends spy action with domestic life, directed by McG.

The script is penned by Adam and Aaron Nee, the duo behind Amazon MGM’s “Masters of the Universe.” It draws inspiration from a short story by Sean Lewis. The project boasts multiple production teams, including 21 Laps, Maximum Effort, and Hartbeat, highlighting the significant backing the film has received.

The narrative revolves around two rival spies who unexpectedly find themselves in a Lamaze class. Their wives quickly form a friendship, forcing the two men into frequent interactions. What begins as an awkward parenting class evolves into a scenario where their secret lives start to intertwine. As their roles as spies clash with their new identities as soon-to-be fathers, comedic and perilous tensions arise. This situation compels them to collaborate, despite their lingering mistrust of one another.

The concept heavily relies on contrast. Cavill portrays a highly trained action-hero type, while Hart injects his signature comedic flair into the chaos of everyday life. This setup places both characters in a realm that is entirely outside their comfort zones, where spy missions and baby preparations occur simultaneously.

The film is produced by Shawn Levy, Dan Levine, and Emily Morris for 21 Laps, along with Ryan Reynolds, George Dewey, and Patrick Gooing for Maximum Effort. Kevin Hart also produces through his Hartbeat banner alongside Luke Kelly-Clyne and Bryan Smiley. The scale of the production teams indicates a strong push for a mainstream global release once the film is completed.

Henry Cavill’s participation continues a busy period for the actor. He is also attached to “Highlander” and Rawson Marshall Thurber’s “Voltron” adaptation. Additionally, he is further developing the “Warhammer 40,000” universe with Amazon MGM Studios, expanding his footprint in major franchise projects.

Recently, Cavill appeared at CinemaCon to promote his “Highlander” reboot. In a video presentation, he stated, “My name is Connor MacLeod. I was born in 1518. And I am immortal.” The presentation featured early footage showcasing sword fights in neon-lit settings, along with behind-the-scenes clips of training and production work. The project is directed by “John Wick” filmmaker Chad Stahelski and is being developed by United Artists and Amazon MGM Studios.

While Cavill continues to focus on action-heavy roles, this Netflix project signifies a shift into more comedic territory. Paired with Kevin Hart, the film is anticipated to balance high-stakes spy action with domestic humor centered around parenting and family pressures.

No release date has been announced, and Netflix has yet to reveal a title for the film.
