Hideo Kojima has always had a strong connection to the film industry. The creator of ‘Metal Gear’ and ‘Death Stranding’ describes himself as someone whose essence is deeply intertwined with movies, and he has consistently infused his games with the talents of filmmakers and actors he admires.

Recently, he has begun to make appearances on screen as well. Late last year, he provided his voice for the Japanese dub of ‘Zootopia 2’ as Paul Moldebrandt, a mole working for the Zootopia Police Department, after being personally invited by director Jared Bush. More recently, he made a cameo in the TBS drama ‘VIVANT’ as Superintendent General Watanuki, although digital alterations obscured his signature glasses and beard, leaving many viewers unable to recognize him.

Now, Kojima has hinted that more is on the horizon. On October 5, DiscussingFilm reported that he will appear in a significant live-action film, a revelation that garnered nearly 290,000 views.

This announcement was made during the return of ‘KOJI10: Hideo Kojima’s Let’s Make This The Greatest 10 p.m.,‘ which resumed after a year-long hiatus. The show originally launched in October 2024 as a segment on TBS radio’s ‘After 6 Junction,’ transitioned into a radio series in 2025, and is now available as a podcast on YouTube, with Episode 36 marking its return. Kojima co-hosts alongside TBS announcer Maoko Hibi and Yohei Miyazaki from TBS’s drama production team.

During a discussion about his cameos, Kojima revealed he has been invited to participate in various projects and has already filmed a few. He confirmed that one of these is a major movie, and when a co-host inquired if he appears on screen, he affirmed it is indeed live action. However, he remained tight-lipped about the filming location.

The live-action film isn’t the only project on his plate. Kojima also mentioned involvement in two significant anime titles, noting that these projects are quite substantial. He added that one of these roles provides him with a considerable amount of dialogue.

He also hinted at a recent video game appearance, though he refrained from confirming whether he was scanned for it. Everything, he humorously remarked, is a secret, as revealing details could land him in trouble. He suggested that he likely won’t disclose which projects he is involved in, leaving audiences to spot him on their own.

None of the projects were named during the show, meaning there is currently no confirmed title for the live-action film. Fans will need to stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.

Kojima emphasized that he doesn’t actively pursue cameo roles, countering the misconception that he enjoys being in the limelight. He explained that he is approached by directors, producers, and friends in the industry, making it difficult to decline. In his view, a cameo is simply a favor for a friend.

He also expressed his admiration for Hitchcock, stating that little surprises like cameos are enjoyable. He prefers not to portray himself, opting instead for roles such as a detective or even a thug.

Regarding ‘Zootopia 2,’ he mentioned that the director only revealed his character when he arrived to record, showing him a picture of a small mole with glasses. He acknowledged that his role in that film was limited to a brief scene, but he gained valuable insights into acting from the experience.

The same episode was filled with updates about Kojima Productions. He shared that the live-action ‘Death Stranding’ film from A24 is beginning location scouting, and he has read the screenplay multiple times. Additionally, two animated projects—a film and a series—are in progress.

He also confirmed that Bill Skarsgård will lead his upcoming game ‘Physint’ and discussed casting for the horror game ‘OD.’ Kojima mentioned he is reading new books for a 2026 edition of Hideo’s Mysteries and announced an anniversary exhibition at Azabudai Hills.

For movie enthusiasts, the most intriguing tease was the cameo. A game creator known for featuring big-name actors in his own works is now quietly making appearances in others’ films, and it seems several more of these roles are on the way.
