Sci-fi conventions are the perfect backdrop for bold fashion, and Hunter Schafer’s look at New York Comic Con was no exception. With neon lighting, flowing blonde hair, and moody shadows, her latest photo resembles a scene from a cyberpunk film.

This striking appearance was intentional, as Schafer was in New York to promote one of the season’s most awaited genre series, set in a futuristic environment that mirrors the show’s aesthetic.

In the captivating photo, Schafer is illuminated by deep blue light, her long blonde hair cascading over one shoulder. She sports a patterned bandeau-style top paired with a dark jacket and flowing dark bottoms. Behind her, a window reveals a bustling street adorned with red pillars and a hanging lantern.

The saturated blue tones evoke a noir sci-fi atmosphere, perfectly aligning with the world she is helping to showcase. This visual stands in stark contrast to the warm, lantern-lit street scene visible outside.

Schafer attended Prime Video’s ‘Blade Runner 2099‘ panel on Saturday, October 10, where she shared the stage with Michelle Yeoh, Dimitri Abold, Lewis Gribben, and Matthew Needham, along with showrunner Silka Luisa and executive producers Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson.

During the event, Prime Video revealed a new trailer and key art for the eight-episode limited series, along with four exclusive clips. The new poster features the tagline “Welcome to a future we no longer control,” reflecting a Los Angeles now overrun by replicants.

The cast and creators expressed their admiration for the franchise’s earlier installments, Ridley Scott’s ‘Blade Runner’ and Denis Villeneuve’s ‘Blade Runner 2049’. Fans can look forward to watching all eight episodes when the series premieres on Prime Video on November 25.

Set 50 years after the events of ‘Blade Runner 2049’, the series depicts a Los Angeles that has transformed, albeit not by humanity. Schafer portrays Cora, a human fugitive determined to stop running, who assumes one last identity as a Blade Runner.

She partners with Olwen, played by Yeoh, a replicant on the brink of death. Together, they pursue a runaway harboring a truth that could unravel their fragile city.

The new trailer delves deeper into the conspiracy at the show’s core and the tension between the two leads. It also suggests that a war occurred after 2049, with replicants now the dominant force and humans in the minority.

Yeoh has expressed her excitement about the project and Schafer’s performance. At a press conference during the Busan International Film Festival prior to New York Comic Con, she described the experience as “an amazing journey,” as reported by Variety. She also highlighted the joy of collaborating with such a talented co-star.

The chemistry between the two leads is central to the narrative. Their dynamic, featuring a dying replicant and a fugitive posing as a Blade Runner, places them together in nearly every scene.

The show has been in development for quite some time. The title was announced in February 2022, and the series has been crafted for Amazon Prime Video since then.

Prime Video first showcased the series at San Diego Comic-Con in July, where a Hall H panel in front of over 6,500 fans premiered a teaser trailer and the premiere date. Ridley Scott serves as an executive producer, with Jonathan van Tulleken, known for ‘Shōgun’, directing the first two episodes. Luisa, the showrunner, previously created the Apple TV+ series ‘Shining Girls’.

Dimitri Abold and Lewis Gribben join Schafer and Yeoh as series regulars, along with a strong lineup of recurring guest stars including Sheila Atim, Tom Burke, and Johnny Harris.

With the premiere just six weeks away, the marketing efforts are clearly intensifying. Following a teaser in July and a more detailed trailer at New York Comic Con, fans can anticipate additional footage leading up to November 25.

Schafer’s blue-lit photo encapsulates the essence of this promotional campaign: stylish, moody, and slightly enigmatic. For a franchise renowned for its neon-drenched visuals, it’s an apt way to herald the next chapter.
