Jack Quaid and Karl Urban Take a Hawaii Trip After Filming Hughie and Butcher’s Final Scene in The Boys
Jack Quaid and Karl Urban recently shared that they celebrated the conclusion of The Boys with a personal getaway to Hawaii after filming their final scene together. The actors, who portrayed Hughie Campbell and Billy Butcher, noted that this trip allowed them to process the end of a long and emotionally charged storyline.
In a retrospective video, Quaid revealed that their last day on set concluded with a touching and emotional moment between their characters. After wrapping up their final scene, the actors embraced, marking the end of years of collaboration on the satirical superhero series. Shortly after, they headed to Hawaii for a much-needed break, stepping away from the demands of production and enjoying time together off set.
Photos from their trip depict the two actors enjoying a relaxed atmosphere by the beach at sunset. Quaid is seen in casual beach attire, while Urban sports his iconic long coat in one image and later dons a Hawaiian shirt layered beneath it in another. This playful contrast between the laid-back setting and Urban’s dramatic wardrobe added a fun element to the images, which quickly gained traction among fans.
This trip followed the conclusion of a significant storyline in the series finale of The Boys, Season 5, Episode 8, titled “Blood and Bone.” The episode centers on a climactic confrontation between Hughie and Butcher, culminating in Butcher’s tragic demise.
In the final episode, Butcher reaches a breaking point after enduring a series of personal losses. Following the defeat of Homelander and the loss of his power, Butcher becomes determined to use the Godolkin Virus to eliminate all Supes, believing it to be the only way to avert future calamities.

Butcher plans to unleash the virus through Vought Tower’s system, intending to spread it worldwide. Hughie intervenes, attempting to dissuade him by arguing that mass murder is not the solution. Their confrontation escalates into a physical struggle, with Butcher initially gaining the upper hand.
In a pivotal moment, Butcher hesitates when he sees Hughie, momentarily reminded of his younger brother, Lenny, which breaks his resolve. Seizing the opportunity, Hughie shoots Butcher, preventing the release of the virus.
After being shot, Butcher collapses as Hughie rushes to his side, visibly shaken. Hughie apologizes, overwhelmed by his actions. Butcher, despite his injuries, forgives him, affirming that he made the right choice and stating he “never would have stopped,” framing his actions as necessary to avert an even greater disaster. Butcher then dies in front of him.
The emotional weight of that finale resonated deeply with the actors. Quaid and Urban have expressed how challenging it was to bid farewell to their characters after years of collaboration. Their choice to travel to Hawaii together symbolizes the strong bond they forged over multiple seasons.
This trip also serves as a softer contrast to the violent and tragic conclusion of their on-screen relationship. Fans have responded enthusiastically to both the series finale and the behind-the-scenes photos, viewing the vacation as a real-life moment of closure for two characters who spent much of the series in conflict yet shared a profound connection.
With The Boys now concluded, both actors are moving on from roles that significantly shaped their careers, leaving behind a finale that blended emotional resolution with the show’s signature intensity.
