Amazon Prime Video’s beloved animated superhero series ‘Invincible’ continues to thrive, with its fifth season on the horizon and no signs of slowing down. Since the second season, the show has consistently returned annually, a strategy by creator Robert Kirkman to prevent the long waits experienced between the first two seasons. This dedication to fans has resulted in a passionate and engaged community surrounding the series.

Season four marked the show’s most successful run, achieving a perfect 100% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes, making it the third consecutive season to reach this impressive milestone. Across social media, ‘Invincible’ has garnered over seven billion views, solidifying its position as one of Prime Video’s most culturally significant properties. For a serialized animated series based on a comic book mythology spanning over two decades, this level of engagement is truly remarkable.

Now, the show is making a casting announcement that feels perfectly timed. During Prime Video’s inaugural panel at the Annecy Animation Festival, executive producer and co-showrunner Robert Kirkman revealed that Jack Quaid will join the voice cast in Season 5, portraying a character named Gravitator, also known as Chris.

Gravitator is portrayed as a talented engineer who initially uses his skills for thievery until a fateful encounter with the superhero Invincible changes his path. Kirkman also shared a first-look clip of the character during the panel.

Quaid is widely recognized for his role as Hughie Campbell in ‘The Boys’, another Prime Video superhero series, marking his transition from one of the platform’s flagship superhero franchises to another.

In the comics, Gravitator is a genius who can manipulate gravity and serves as a villain before his interaction with Mark Grayson inspires him to use his abilities for good, eventually leading him to work with the Pentagon. This character arc adds a layer of moral complexity that makes the casting choice genuinely exciting.

The announcement of Quaid was not the only surprise at Annecy. Kirkman and Prime Video head of animation Melissa Wolfe confirmed that ‘Invincible’ has already been renewed for a sixth season, even before the fifth season has premiered, making it the streamer’s longest-running animated series to date.

Kirkman expressed that one of the greatest joys of developing ‘Invincible’ over the years has been witnessing new audiences connect with its characters and world, nearly twenty-five years after the story’s inception.

Season 5 is anticipated to debut in 2027, with returning cast members including Matthew Rhys as Dinosaurus and Lee Pace reprising his role as Thragg. Kirkman has frequently mentioned his goal to run the series for seven to nine seasons, and the renewal for Season 6 brings that vision closer to fruition.

With a villain-turned-ally joining the mix, a strong returning cast, and a production team operating with confidence, the excitement surrounding Season 5 is palpable. Whether you’re familiar with Gravitator from the comics or are meeting him for the first time through this casting, share your thoughts in the comments and let the ‘Invincible’ conversation commence.
