James Gunn, co-head of DC Studios, recently addressed fans’ eagerness for updates on The Batman Part II, directed by Matt Reeves. Gunn urged fans to stop pressuring Reeves online and give him space to craft the sequel’s script. He emphasized that Reeves is working diligently, and the script is nearing completion, possibly by the end of this month.

The sequel, featuring Robert Pattinson as Batman, was announced in April 2022 during CinemaCon. Reeves will return as director, with Mattson Tomlin co-writing the script. Filming is set to start in late 2025, with a release planned for October 1, 2027. Returning cast includes Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Colin Farrell as the Penguin.

Gunn stressed that Reeves is focused on delivering a high-quality script, not rushing to meet fan demands. He noted that Reeves remains unaffected by online chatter, prioritizing his creative process. Gunn also clarified that Reeves’ Batman series falls under DC’s “Elseworlds” label, meaning it exists outside the main DC Universe timeline, allowing for unique storytelling.

Quality is key for Gunn, who said any project, even an Elseworlds one, must be exceptional to move forward. He shared a lighthearted story about an actor pitching an Elseworlds idea, noting that only a “masterpiece” script will get the green light. For now, Gunn asks fans to trust Reeves and let him work at his own pace.

I think Gunn’s call for patience is spot-on. Reeves’ first Batman film was a hit because of his careful, thoughtful approach, and rushing him could compromise the sequel’s quality. Fans should trust his vision and give him the time he needs to create something special. What do you think about the wait for The Batman Part II? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
