Fans of Jane Austen can now catch a glimpse of the upcoming adaptation of ‘Sense and Sensibility’, as the first official poster for the new period drama has been unveiled. This film brings Austen’s cherished story back to the big screen, featuring a fresh cast and a new creative team behind the scenes.

Based on Austen’s classic 1811 novel, the film is directed by Georgia Oakley, with the screenplay penned by Diana Reid. Produced by Working Title Films, Focus Features, November Pictures, and Kiddo Films, the project boasts a team known for crafting character-driven dramas.

The newly released poster offers audiences their first visual insight into the adaptation, just ahead of the official trailer set to drop tomorrow. This trailer is anticipated to provide a closer look at the characters, romantic entanglements, and the world surrounding the Dashwood family.

The new film follows sisters Elinor and Marianne Dashwood as they navigate love, heartbreak, family challenges, and societal expectations. True to Austen’s original narrative, the movie delves into the contrasts between emotion and reason while chronicling the sisters’ quest for happiness.

Daisy Edgar-Jones stars as Elinor Dashwood, with Esmé Creed-Miles portraying her younger sister Marianne. The cast also features Caitríona Balfe as Mrs. Dashwood, Frank Dillane as John Willoughby, and George MacKay as Edward Ferrars.

Additional cast members include Herbert Nordrum as Colonel Brandon, Bodhi Rae Breathnach as Margaret Dashwood, and Fiona Shaw as Mrs. Jennings. With such a talented ensemble, this adaptation is poised to infuse new energy into Austen’s iconic characters.

Filming for the movie commenced in the United Kingdom in 2025. Production details reveal that Arnaud Potier served as cinematographer while Izabella Curry managed editing. The film aims to present a modern interpretation of the classic tale while preserving the emotional themes that have resonated with audiences for over two centuries.

This isn’t the first time ‘Sense and Sensibility’ has been adapted; the story has inspired numerous film and television versions, including the acclaimed 1995 film featuring Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet. The new adaptation seeks to introduce the narrative to a fresh audience with a distinct style and perspective.

Director Georgia Oakley, recognized for her focus on character-driven narratives, takes on this significant project. The screenplay by Diana Reid aims to translate Austen’s renowned dialogue and relationships into a contemporary cinematic experience.

‘Sense and Sensibility’ is set to hit theaters in the United Kingdom on September 25, followed by a U.S. release on October 16. With the first poster generating buzz and the trailer arriving tomorrow, fans will soon gain a clearer understanding of what this new adaptation has in store.
