Javier Bardem Calls ‘Dune: Part Three’ a Masterpiece with a Wild Ending
Denis Villeneuve’s ‘Dune‘ saga has established itself as one of the most intricately crafted sci-fi epics in recent memory, and fans have eagerly awaited the trilogy’s final chapter since ‘Dune: Part Two’ premiered. With production completed and a release date confirmed, the cast is beginning to share insights about what lies ahead.
This week, excitement surged thanks to remarks from Javier Bardem, who portrays Stilgar throughout the franchise and has become a prominent advocate during press events. Bardem has consistently praised Villeneuve’s vision, but his latest comments have heightened the anticipation even further.
According to remarks reported by Culture Crave and credited to Entertainment Tonight, Bardem referred to ‘Dune: Part Three’ as a “masterpiece,” noting that its conclusion is set to be something unexpected. He emphasized that Villeneuve is taking the narrative even further than its predecessor, similar to how ‘Dune: Part Two’ expanded upon the original film.
Bardem went on to suggest that longtime fans of Frank Herbert’s source material should prepare for a finale that diverges from what is written in ‘Dune: Messiah.’ In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, he promised, “It’s going to be something extraordinary.”
This is a bold assertion, especially given the affection the franchise has garnered from both critics and book purists, who have witnessed Villeneuve balance faithful adaptation with his own directorial style across two films. If ‘Part Three’ indeed ventures beyond its predecessor as Bardem suggests, it would represent a significant shift from the more contained conclusion outlined in Herbert’s original novel.
The stakes for ‘Dune: Part Three’ extend far beyond fan expectations, particularly with the impressive ensemble returning and joining for the finale. Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Jason Momoa, Bardem, and Florence Pugh are all set to reprise their roles, while Robert Pattinson joins the cast as Scytale, a shapeshifting Face Dancer plotting against Paul Atreides, and Anya Taylor-Joy also rounds out the ensemble.
Momoa’s return is especially noteworthy, as he will not reprise the beloved Duncan Idaho but instead portray Hayt, a ghola clone of the character created by the Tleilaxu with a secret mission to destroy Paul. Hans Zimmer will also return to compose the score, ensuring the sound of Arrakis remains consistent through the trilogy’s conclusion.
Adding another layer of intrigue to the film’s rollout is its release date, which places ‘Dune: Part Three’ in direct competition with Marvel’s ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ on December 18. Fans have already started dubbing the box office clash “Dunesday,” with some even drawing parallels to the ‘Barbenheimer’ phenomenon that took theaters by storm a few summers ago.
Bardem’s confidence in the project is particularly striking, especially considering that his future in the franchise was not always certain. The actor has previously expressed doubts about his role heading into the finale, making his current enthusiasm for the script and Villeneuve’s direction feel like a significant endorsement.
With a release date confirmed and a star-studded cast, expectations for ‘Dune: Part Three’ were already soaring before Bardem’s comments began circulating. Now, with one of the franchise’s most reliable hype men calling the ending “extraordinary,” the pressure on Villeneuve to deliver has never been greater.
