Jeffrey Dean Morgan Reveals One ‘The Walking Dead’ Moment He Regrets the Most

The Walking Dead shocked fans when Negan, played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan, killed Glenn Rhee with a baseball bat. This brutal moment came straight from the comic books but hit viewers hard. It became one of the show’s most talked-about scenes.
After that episode, the show lost nearly two million viewers. Many fans quit watching, upset by Glenn’s death. Other major character deaths, like Carl Grimes, didn’t spark the same backlash. The decision to kill Glenn hurt the show’s popularity and never fully recovered.
In a recent interview on First We Feast, Morgan spoke with Lauren Cohan, who plays Maggie. He said he wishes Glenn hadn’t died. “If I could change one thing, I wouldn’t have killed Glenn,” Morgan said. He believes it would have changed the show’s story for the better. Cohan nodded in agreement.
Morgan also joked that if Glenn lived, he and Cohan might have had an easier time working together. He added that Glenn could have died differently, but he didn’t want Negan to be the one to kill him.
Glenn’s death also meant losing actor Steven Yeun. Since leaving, Yeun has become a major star. He earned an Emmy for Beef and was the first Asian-American nominated for a Best Actor Oscar. He now leads Amazon’s hit show Invincible. Unlike other actors, Yeun never returned for flashbacks or guest roles on The Walking Dead.
The Walking Dead franchise has shrunk. Only two spin-offs remain: Dead City, starring Maggie and Negan, and Daryl Dixon. Daryl’s show is popular and keeps getting renewed. Dead City’s future is less clear. AMC wants to keep the universe alive, but the show’s glory days are gone. Many fans say the series peaked before Glenn’s death.
Killing Glenn stayed true to the comics but may have been a mistake. It changed the show’s path and cost it fans.
Glenn’s death was a bold move, but it hurt The Walking Dead more than it helped. Staying true to the comics is great, but TV shows need to keep viewers hooked. Losing Glenn pushed too many fans away.
