Jennifer Holland Discusses James Gunn’s Work Ethic During ‘Supergirl’ Premiere and ‘Man of Tomorrow’ Production
Jennifer Holland has provided fresh insights into her husband James Gunn’s relentless work ethic as he dives back into production for the upcoming Superman sequel Man of Tomorrow, just days after attending the Supergirl premiere in New York City.
During a conversation with PEOPLE at a special screening event for Supergirl on June 25 in New York, Holland, 38, revealed that Gunn took little time off following the premiere on June 22. She noted that he almost immediately returned to work on the next DC project.
“He did not,” Holland responded when asked if they stayed in New York for a break after the premiere. She elaborated that Gunn’s dedication to his craft means he goes straight back to work. “He went home directly after the premiere to go film again, because he’s just—he loves it. He’s a workaholic, so it’s his favorite. He’s like, ‘Oh, gosh, life is so hard. I’m working all the time,’ and then he gets one day off, and he’s like, ‘I don’t know what to do with myself. I don’t know what to do with myself.’ So, you know, he’s happy working.”
James Gunn is currently at the helm of the new DC Universe, which kicked off with the recent Superman reboot featuring David Corenswet as Clark Kent and Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El. This universe is expanding with Supergirl, which follows Kara’s journey through space as she encounters new characters, including Lobo, portrayed by Jason Momoa.
Holland confirmed that Man of Tomorrow is actively in production. The film continues Superman’s story and is set for release on July 9, 2027. Gunn is both writing and directing this project, which will again star Corenswet as Superman and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.
Their appearance at the Supergirl premiere showcased their strong involvement in the DC projects. Holland, who has been married to Gunn since 2022, mentioned that she spent time in New York with friends while Gunn quickly returned to his work commitments.

“I was here with my friend Bonnie, and María Gabriela de Faría, who plays The Engineer in Superman,” she shared with PEOPLE. “She came to New York with me, and I got to show her around a little bit. She’s never been to New York, so it was her first time.”
Holland is also part of Gunn’s DC universe through her role in HBO Max’s Peacemaker, where she portrays Emilia Harcourt alongside John Cena. Her character has appeared in multiple DC projects, including The Suicide Squad, Black Adam, and Shazam! Fury of the Gods, with more appearances likely in future films.
When asked about her potential return in upcoming Superman-related projects, Holland expressed optimism but remained cautious. “I could definitely see that happening,” she said. “Obviously, I don’t know. I know as much as everyone else knows about where we’re gonna see Harcourt again. But I am keeping my arms as toned as possible in the off time, just in case, so that they’re ready for me.”
With Supergirl now in theaters and Man of Tomorrow already in production, the DC Universe is rapidly expanding under Gunn’s leadership, with numerous major releases planned for the coming years.
