The gradual revival of Netflix’s Marvel universe within the MCU has been one of the most delightful surprises in recent years, with familiar faces from Hell’s Kitchen making their way back into the spotlight one by one. Each casting announcement feels like another piece falling into place for a segment of the franchise that many fans believed was permanently shelved.

This resurgence has picked up speed as the show approaches its third season, with several original Defenders confirmed to return and set photos already sparking speculation about additional appearances. Amid this excitement, one particularly cherished character has been noticeably missing, leading fans to question if she would ever don her costume again.

Jessica Henwick, who portrayed the martial artist Colleen Wing in ‘Iron Fist’ and ‘The Defenders,’ has now directly addressed her absence, revealing that she did engage in genuine discussions with Marvel about a return for ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ season 3, but ultimately declined. In an exclusive interview with Inverse, Henwick shared that while she and the creative team, including Dario Scardapane, Justin Benson, and Aaron Moorhead, discussed her comeback, she will not be appearing this season.

Her decision is rooted in a desire to protect the character’s narrative rather than a lack of enthusiasm for reprising the role. “For me, her story ended with her going off into the sunset. She has the Iron Fist,” Henwick explained to Inverse. “I’m just not interested in bringing her back unless it’s worth sort of unpicking that happiness, because obviously she can’t be happy on a TV series. If she’s back, something’s gone wrong.”

This protectiveness stems from a genuine love for the character, not a refusal to return. “I would absolutely love to come back, but it would just really have to be the right story,” she mentioned in the same Inverse interview.

Henwick noted that the show’s creative team shared her instinct about not disrupting Colleen’s journey without a compelling reason. The discussions reportedly revolved around whether bringing her back would meaningfully serve the character or merely cater to nostalgia, and both parties agreed to hold off for now.

Her absence is particularly striking given the influx of the old Netflix Marvel roster into the upcoming season. Finn Jones is confirmed to return as Danny Rand for the first time in eight years, joining previously confirmed returnees Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones and Mike Colter as Luke Cage, both of whom appeared in season 2 alongside Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock and Deborah Ann Woll’s Karen Page.

Set photos have reportedly confirmed that Jones will appear as part of a storyline depicting Danny in a committed relationship, which has naturally sparked fan speculation that Colleen might be involved in that arc as well. For now, however, that theory remains unfulfilled, at least for this next chapter of the series.

Henwick has remained open about her willingness to return throughout the show’s run, previously telling Polygon during press for ‘Silo’ season 3 that she would love to do it if the story is right, expressing her eagerness to wear the suit again after nearly a decade away from the role.

‘Daredevil: Born Again’ season 3 is set to premiere on Disney+ in March 2027, giving fans plenty of time to hope that Colleen Wing will eventually get the comeback she deserves.
