Jon Bernthal Teases ‘The Punisher: One Last Kill’ Says Team Tried to Honor Comic Book Fans
Jon Bernthal reveals that viewers will witness a different aspect of Frank Castle in ‘The Punisher: One Last Kill.’
In a recent interview prior to the project’s release, Bernthal shared that the creative team aimed to remain faithful to the comics while also exploring new directions for the character. This marks Bernthal’s return as Frank Castle for his first solo ‘Punisher’ story since Netflix concluded ‘The Punisher.’
According to Bernthal, the narrative kicks off with Frank in a very dark emotional and mental state.
“We really tried to honor the comic and the comic book fans,” he stated.
He elaborated that the primary objective was to depict Frank grappling with his thirst for revenge while seeking a new purpose in life.
“The directive from day one was pretty simple: it was how do we get Frank from this place in his life where he is reeling and spiraling out of control, a man who is set on absolute vengeance, to a place where he can find some meaning, where he can find something new to fight for?” he said.
The actor mentioned that this new project delves into a more personal journey for the character, rather than solely focusing on violence and revenge.
“But he does find a bit of purpose, and I think that is an exciting new take on the character,” Bernthal remarked.
‘The Punisher: One Last Kill’ is set to premiere on May 12, coinciding with the conclusion of ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ on Disney+. The plot follows Frank Castle as he becomes entangled in a conflict against a rising criminal empire while confronting his past and his obsession with vengeance.
In addition to starring in the project, Bernthal is also co-writing and serving as an executive producer.
