Kate Winslet has candidly shared her experiences during the challenging filming of Titanic, revealing that the pressure on set often felt overwhelming. In a recent interview, she described the working conditions as exhausting, noting that director James Cameron was particularly intense throughout the production.

Winslet elaborated on the long and unpredictable schedule, with filming sometimes extending from early morning until the following day. She characterized the experience as disorienting, explaining that the cast had to seize any opportunity to rest, even if it meant catching sleep during brief breaks. Meals and daily routines were in constant flux due to the relentless pace of production.

“It was every man for himself on the set; you had to ensure that you snatched some sleep during the day, with a black eye mask on. Sometimes you’d find yourself having lunch at two am or breakfast at four pm. It was very disorienting,” she remarked.

Winslet also discussed James Cameron’s strong personality and his demanding nature as a director. She acknowledged that while he had a clear vision for the film, his temper could make the set quite stressful, particularly for younger actors still finding their footing in Hollywood.

“He’s a nice guy, but the problem was that his vision for the film was as clear as it was. He has a temper like you wouldn’t believe… As it was, the actors got off lightly. I think Jim knew he couldn’t shout at us the way he did to his crew because our performances would be no good,” she said.

Despite the difficult conditions, Titanic emerged as one of the most successful films in history. Released in 1997, it became a global box office sensation and held the title of the highest-grossing film for many years. The movie also garnered 11 Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director, propelling both Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio to international stardom.

Reflecting on the pressure and exhaustion during filming, Winslet often considers the experience a significant turning point in her career.
