Keanu Reeves might soon be entering the vibrant world of LEGO. Reports indicate that the actor is in discussions to star in a new live-action hybrid LEGO movie currently being developed by Universal, as noted by TheWrap.

While the project remains untitled, many details about its storyline are under wraps. However, sources suggest that the film will blend live-action sequences with animation, reminiscent of previous LEGO films that integrated real-world characters into the colorful LEGO universe.

Josh Cooley is set to direct the film. Known for his animation expertise, Cooley directed Pixar’s ‘Toy Story 4,’ which won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. His involvement hints that the new LEGO project will emphasize both humor and visual creativity.

The film is expected to be produced by Jill Wilfert and Ryan Christians through The LEGO Group. Although Universal has not provided official comments regarding the project, TheWrap reported that this movie is part of a larger partnership between Universal and the LEGO company.

The agreement between the two companies was announced as a plan to create three new live-action LEGO films. The upcoming project featuring Keanu Reeves is believed to be one of those films, although details about the other two projects remain undisclosed.

This new movie comes years after the success of ‘The LEGO Movie,’ which transformed the toy brand into a significant film franchise. Released in 2014 by Warner Bros., the animated comedy was a surprise hit, earning around $468 million globally and receiving acclaim for its inventive storytelling, humor, and appeal to both children and adults.

Following that success, Warner Bros. and The LEGO Group launched several additional films, including ‘The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part,’ ‘The LEGO Batman Movie,’ and ‘The LEGO Ninjago Movie.’ Each film explored different aspects of the LEGO universe while maintaining the playful style that made the original so beloved.

Now, Universal aims to continue that legacy with a fresh approach. Instead of a fully animated feature, the studio is pursuing a hybrid format that will allow LEGO characters and live actors to share the screen.

For Keanu Reeves, this role would add another intriguing chapter to his diverse career. The actor is known for taking on a variety of projects, from the action-packed ‘John Wick’ franchise to voice roles like Duke Caboom in ‘Toy Story 4.’ His connection with audiences and status as a fan-favorite could draw additional attention to the LEGO film.

Universal’s Matt Reilly, executive vice president of Production Development, and Jacqueline Garell, director of Production Development, are expected to oversee the project for the studio.

While fans will have to wait for more information regarding the story and Reeves’ potential character, the combination of one of Hollywood’s most beloved actors with one of the world’s most recognizable toy brands has already generated significant excitement. This new LEGO movie could represent another major step in expanding the franchise for a new generation of viewers.
