The Marvel Cinematic Universe has long teased fans with characters that linger just outside the limelight, and few have sparked as much ongoing speculation as Ghost Rider and Storm. Both characters boast rich comic book legacies, yet neither has secured a definitive live-action representation within Kevin Feige’s ever-growing cinematic universe. This absence has only intensified the excitement among fans eager to see new actors take on these iconic roles.

Two names have emerged as frontrunners in this discussion: Ryan Gosling and Cynthia Erivo. Both actors have openly shown interest in joining the MCU as Ghost Rider and Storm respectively, and their star power has only amplified the fan casting buzz with each passing year.

The speculation reached new heights when podcast host Josh Horowitz interviewed Kevin Feige for an episode of Happy Sad Confused. Horowitz directly inquired why Gosling isn’t playing Ghost Rider and why Erivo isn’t portraying Storm. Instead of dismissing the idea, Feige provided a response that quickly went viral, stating he never knows what the future holds and praising both actors as very talented with great characters.

The timing of Feige’s comments is significant. Both characters are rumored to play a role in the upcoming crossover films ‘Avengers: Doomsday‘ or ‘Secret Wars,’ as these projects are expected to merge multiple universes. This narrative approach could allow Marvel to introduce new versions of characters while preserving the legacy of those that came before.

Erivo’s potential journey to becoming Storm has also gained momentum. Halle Berry, who portrayed the character in the original X-Men trilogy, will not reprise her role in Doomsday, paving the way for Erivo to step into the part. Berry has previously expressed her willingness to return to the Marvel universe in some capacity, even if not specifically as Storm.

Gosling’s connection to Ghost Rider has a lengthy history. The actor first mentioned to Josh Horowitz back in 2022 that Ghost Rider was the superhero role he desired most, a statement that reportedly reached Feige directly. Ghost Rider has previously appeared on screen through Nicolas Cage in 2007 and its 2012 sequel Spirit of Vengeance, but the character has been absent from films since Marvel Studios regained the rights.

Neither casting has been confirmed by Marvel Studios, and Feige’s response was intentionally vague. However, the fact that he didn’t outright dismiss either possibility has ignited fan communities, who are eagerly analyzing every word for clues about what’s next in the studio’s multiverse saga.

Whether or not Gosling ever rides a flaming motorcycle or Erivo commands the skies as Storm, the reaction to this single quote highlights the immense goodwill both actors have with Marvel’s audience. Do you believe ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ or ‘Secret Wars’ is where Gosling’s Ghost Rider and Erivo’s Storm will finally make their MCU debut?
