Lionel Messi is making a surprising connection to the Marvel universe, appearing alongside Spider-Man in a new teaser for the upcoming film ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’.

The teaser has quickly gained traction among fans, showcasing Messi meeting the iconic web-slinger in what seems to be a playful promotional moment for the highly anticipated Marvel Studios movie.

‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ will see Tom Holland reprising his role as Peter Parker, continuing the narrative after the events of ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’. This film is expected to present a markedly different version of the character, as Peter now leads a more isolated life following Doctor Strange’s spell that erased the world’s memory of him.

Peter has dedicated years to protecting New York City as Spider-Man, all while concealing his identity. The new storyline will introduce a formidable new threat and a significant shift in Peter’s abilities, potentially pushing his powers into uncharted territory.

This upcoming movie marks the fourth installment of Spider-Man films tied to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, following ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’, which became one of the most successful superhero films ever by uniting various iterations of the character.

‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, known for his work on ‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’. The screenplay is penned by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, who previously collaborated on earlier MCU Spider-Man films, along with writer Justin Kuritzkes.

The cast features Tom Holland as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, Zendaya as MJ, Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds, and Sadie Sink in a yet-to-be-revealed role, alongside several returning Marvel characters. Jon Bernthal will reprise his role as Frank Castle, also known as the Punisher, while Mark Ruffalo will return as Bruce Banner, aka the Hulk.

The film is anticipated to take Spider-Man in a more grounded direction. After years of involvement in larger superhero narratives, the focus will shift to Peter as a solo hero confronting crime and challenges in New York City.

The title draws inspiration from the renowned 2008 Marvel Comics storyline “Brand New Day,” which transformed Spider-Man’s status quo and introduced a new chapter for the character. The filmmakers have indicated that the movie will evoke a similar sentiment by depicting Peter’s fresh start after losing his previous life.

Production on ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ commenced after extensive development. Sony and Marvel initiated plans for another Spider-Man movie following the monumental success of ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’, with producer Amy Pascal previously stating that the intention was for Holland’s Spider-Man saga to continue with a new trilogy.

Filming took place in 2025, with locations including Glasgow, Scotland, and various sites across England. Studio work was finalized at Pinewood Studios.

‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ is set to hit theaters on July 31, as part of Phase Six of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With Tom Holland returning, major Marvel characters joining the narrative, and now a surprising connection to Lionel Messi, the film is already becoming one of the most discussed superhero releases ahead of its premiere.
