M. Night Shyamalan and Nicholas Sparks Join Forces for a Supernatural Love Story ‘Remain’
A new book is coming this fall that brings together two big names: filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan and bestselling author Nicholas Sparks. The two are teaming up to create a unique story that blends love and the supernatural.
The book, titled Remain, tells the story of Tate Donovan, a New York architect who heads to Cape Cod to design a summer home for his best friend.
Tate is trying to start fresh after being treated for severe depression in a psychiatric facility. He’s still grieving the loss of his sister when he meets Wren, a mysterious young woman who makes him question everything he thought he knew about the world.
Sparks and Shyamalan are working on the book and film separately. While Sparks is writing the novel, Shyamalan is working on the movie script. The movie, which will follow the same plot as the book, is currently in development.
Although a release date hasn’t been set, it has been reported that Jake Gyllenhaal and Phoebe Dynevor will play the lead roles.
In an exclusive statement to PEOPLE, Sparks shared his excitement about the project, saying, “Collaborating with M. Night Shyamalan has been one of the highlights of my career. We are excited to share the next stage in this process: the beautiful book cover, designed by my longtime cover designer Flamur Tonuzi.”
Remain will be Sparks’ twenty-sixth book. He has already written many bestselling novels, including The Notebook, A Walk to Remember, and Dear John. Sparks’ books have been translated into over 50 languages, with more than 150 million copies sold worldwide.
M. Night Shyamalan is known for his supernatural films. He has directed and written many popular movies like The Sixth Sense, Signs, and Trap. His films have earned over $3.3 billion globally.
Shyamalan’s production company, Blinding Edge Pictures, will produce the Remain film. Ashwin Rajan, the company’s president, will work with Sparks’ longtime producing partners, Theresa Park and Marc Bienstock, on the project.
