Major ‘The Mandalorian’ and ‘Ahsoka’ Crossover Film Reportedly Shelved
Recent reports from Disney upfronts, highlighted by outlets like Forbes, indicate that a planned crossover film between ‘The Mandalorian’ and ‘Ahsoka’ has been quietly shelved.
This crossover was anticipated to unite characters from both series in a single narrative set within the same timeline. However, the latest updates suggest that the project has been placed on the backburner and is not progressing at this time.
Instead of pursuing the crossover film, Disney is shifting its focus to other projects within the Star Wars universe, particularly upcoming films centered around ‘The Mandalorian’ storyline. This change hints at a new direction for how the studio intends to approach these interconnected narratives.
This news arrives as ‘Ahsoka’ faces a lengthy wait for its next season, which Disney has confirmed is now expected in “early 2027.” Fans may find themselves waiting approximately three and a half to four years between seasons, depending on production and post-production schedules.

Filming for the upcoming season concluded in October 2025, but the extended gap is reportedly due to extensive visual effects work and prolonged post-production. The series continues the narrative crafted by Dave Filoni, expanding on characters from earlier animated series like ‘The Clone Wars’ and ‘Rebels.’
The crossover film was viewed by fans as a significant potential event, especially since both shows share the same narrative timeline. It was expected to unite key characters, including those portrayed by Pedro Pascal and Rosario Dawson.
However, the latest information indicates that Disney has opted to pursue a different path for now. The studio is moving forward with a separate ‘The Mandalorian & Grogu’ project, which is now positioned as the primary continuation of that storyline on the big screen.
According to the same reports, one reason for the changing plans is that Dave Filoni has taken on greater responsibilities within Lucasfilm. He is now more involved in shaping the overall direction of the Star Wars franchise, which may be influencing the pace at which individual projects progress.
The report also notes that production challenges and previous casting changes have affected scheduling. The passing of actor Ray Stevenson, who played a significant role in ‘Ahsoka,’ also necessitated recasting decisions that required adjustments in production planning.
Fan reactions online have been mixed. Some viewers have voiced frustration over the long delays and canceled projects, especially following the excitement surrounding a potential crossover event. Others believe Disney is attempting to streamline its Star Wars content into fewer but larger projects.
Currently, there is no official release plan for a crossover between ‘The Mandalorian’ and ‘Ahsoka,’ and the concept appears to be on hold indefinitely.
