Marvel Studios Reportedly Searching for a New Black Panther in the MCU Top Contenders Revealed
Marvel Studios is reportedly initiating early discussions regarding the casting of a new Black Panther for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This information comes from insider Alex Perez, who addressed fan inquiries about the future of Wakanda and the franchise’s direction.
When questioned about the possibility of Secret Wars introducing multiverse versions of Wakandan characters, Perez refrained from confirming any specifics. However, he indicated that Marvel is actively considering who will next don the mantle of Black Panther.
He stated, “I cannot comment on this, but I know that they’re actively looking for the next Black Panther as we speak. And there are a couple of names that have been thrown around.” Among those being discussed for the role are actors John David Washington and Damson Idris.
Additionally, Perez mentioned another name that has surfaced in conversations, noting that Lakeith Stanfield is being considered for a different Marvel project, not Black Panther, hinting it is something “bluer,” though he did not provide further details.
The report does not confirm any official casting decisions from Marvel Studios, and there has been no public announcement regarding the recasting of the character. Nonetheless, the ongoing discussion reflects speculation about the future of the role following Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, where Shuri, portrayed by Letitia Wright, assumed the mantle after T’Challa’s death in the narrative.

Since the sequel’s release, Marvel has kept its development plans for Black Panther 3 largely under wraps, although various updates over the years have confirmed that the franchise is set to continue. Reports indicated that director Ryan Coogler and Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige began discussing ideas for a third film as early as 2022.
Subsequent updates suggested that the cast and creative team would take time before returning, allowing for proper story development. In 2024, Coogler was also linked to discussions with Denzel Washington about a potential future role in the franchise, further heightening interest in the next installment’s direction.
By mid-2025, Coogler confirmed that Black Panther 3 was officially in development and would be his next film project. The movie is currently anticipated to release in 2028, although Marvel has yet to disclose detailed story information.
For now, the notion of a new Black Panther remains unconfirmed, but the latest insider comments indicate that casting discussions are already underway as Marvel gears up for the next chapter of the Wakandan saga.
