Marvel’s presence at conventions has always been more than just panels and trailers, and this year’s D23 is a testament to that. Beyond the major stage reveals and cast appearances, the studio has created an entire physical space designed to immerse fans in its universe rather than merely addressing them from a podium.

This kind of immersive activation has become a hallmark for Marvel at Disney’s largest fan event, following a successful version at D23 in 2024 that allowed attendees to interact with characters and props from the franchise. This year’s setup continues that legacy, expanding the concept with new details that entice fans to line up once more.

Attendees got a sneak peek this week at the TVA Repairs and Advancement desk within Marvel Studios’ TVA Experience booth at D23, part of the larger walkthrough activation officially named “Your Next Assignment.” The design captures the same bureaucratic, retro-futuristic vibe that made the Time Variance Authority a standout element in ‘Loki.’

The activation is crafted as an immersive walkthrough experience, guiding guests through various worlds within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It blends familiar locations with entirely new ones that fans have yet to explore. This structure mirrors Marvel’s initial TVA-themed activation at D23 in 2024, where attendees navigated the agency’s offices, enjoyed an interactive Rocket Raccoon experience, and glimpsed costumes and props related to projects like ‘Agatha All Along.’

This year’s experience seems to build on that foundation rather than simply repeating it. According to details shared before the event, the experience promises to showcase both familiar and new worlds, indicating that Marvel is once again using the TVA setting as a versatile framing device to highlight elements from its current lineup without tying the activation to a specific upcoming project.

This flexibility aligns with the TVA’s role throughout Marvel’s recent productions, acting as a connective thread between timelines and realities since its debut in ‘Loki.’ Utilizing this bureaucratic backdrop allows the studio to incorporate visuals and props from a broad range of movies and shows without needing a single unifying storyline.

The TVA activation is just one aspect of what Disney has labeled its largest show floor ever for this year’s D23 event. Attendees can also explore the Disney+ Hulu Experience, featuring a signature 4D theater and immersive photo opportunities spotlighting projects like ‘The Simpsons,’ ‘Percy Jackson,’ and Marvel’s upcoming series ‘VisionQuest.’

This expanded footprint reflects how crucial these physical activations have become to Disney’s overall convention strategy. In addition to Marvel and the streaming pavilion, this year’s show floor includes an Avatar-themed experience inspired by the beauty of Pandora, alongside returning attractions like the Lucasfilm pavilion and a Pixar anniversary celebration.

For Marvel, embracing the TVA’s aesthetic provides a proven crowd-pleaser to build around while continuing to unveil other major reveals throughout the weekend, including costume unveilings related to ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and fresh glimpses of ‘VisionQuest.’ Whether this year’s TVA Experience matches the excitement generated by its 2024 predecessor will depend on how many corners of the Marvel multiverse Disney manages to incorporate into the walkthrough.
