Marvel has a knack for conveying significant messages through simple symbols. A shield, a hammer, or an arc reactor can communicate who is back and what’s at stake without uttering a single word. With ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ uniting heroes from various universes, the studio is once again relying on this tradition, particularly through its merchandise.

The film’s marketing has been subtly hinting at one specific pairing. Chris Hemsworth’s Thor and Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers are central to some of the movie’s most buzzed-about footage, especially since Steve has been out of the Captain America suit for months after passing the shield to Sam Wilson. This makes his representation on screen, and even on merchandise, particularly intriguing.

Recently, new ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ merchandise unveiled a team-up logo for the duo. Dubbed the ‘Worthy Star,’ it features Thor and Steve each holding a hammer within a star split into red and blue halves, with lightning surging through the design and the ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ logo below.

This symbol first appeared on a life-size metal ring that came with a Special Edition Hot Toys figure of Steve Rogers. It’s described as a star divided into two sharp, angular halves—one red and one blue—with a lightning bolt between them, which doesn’t resemble the classic shield. The design has since shown up on other merchandise, including a sweatshirt at Target featuring Thor and Steve under a new Avengers logo.

The star motif is an interesting choice, considering Steve is no longer Captain America and won’t don a star-shaped design in the film. Reports indicate that the red-and-blue color scheme maintains a patriotic feel, while the lightning points to Thor. This follows another Marvel logo that utilized Mjolnir instead of the shield as Steve’s primary symbol.

The figure offers fans a detailed glimpse of the character’s new look. Steve is seen wearing a charcoal brown jacket, black T-shirt, olive-brown trousers, and black shoes, sporting mid-length brown hair and a full beard reminiscent of his appearance in ‘Avengers: Infinity War.’ This 1/6-scale collectible stands about 12 inches tall with 30 points of articulation and is priced at $280 for the Collector Edition.

It also includes a cracked Mjolnir that lights up and glows with blue lightning. Observant fans have noted that the figure’s left hand features Steve’s wedding ring, a nod to the life he chose with Peggy Carter at the conclusion of ‘Avengers: Endgame.’

This merchandise echoes the final moments of the film’s July trailer. After Thor attempts to rally the X-Men, the Wakandans, the Fantastic Four, and the Avengers to confront a threat, the clip concludes with his reunion with Steve Rogers, who confirms his identity by summoning Mjolnir just as he did in ‘Endgame.’ This moment reaffirmed that Steve remains worthy of the hammer, even after stepping away from the Captain America mantle.

The trailer garnered massive attention, reportedly amassing 503 million views within its first 24 hours, making it the second-largest movie trailer launch of all time. Marvel’s earlier teaser in December depicted Steve riding a motorcycle home and holding a baby, ending with a card stating that Steve Rogers will return instead of Captain America.

The logo implies that the film’s marketing is positioning Steve and Thor as a duo, but many details remain unconfirmed. Fans are also curious about how Steve and Sam Wilson’s Captain America will coexist, with early merchandise suggesting that Steve will wield Mjolnir while Sam retains the shield. Directors Joe and Anthony Russo have kept the plot of ‘Doomsday’ tightly under wraps, with Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom looming as a significant threat.

‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is set to open on December 18, 2026, marking the first chapter of a two-part finale that continues in ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ in December 2027. If the merchandise is any indication, the symbols of that story are already beginning to take shape.
