Few actors have established themselves as firmly in the Harlan Coben universe as Michelle Keegan. Her leading role in ‘Fool Me Once’ became a global sensation, making it one of Netflix’s highest-rated Coben adaptations and solidifying her status as one of the platform’s most bankable stars. Now, with her second collaboration with Coben already well underway, excitement for her return to this universe is rapidly increasing.

The British adaptation of ‘The Woods’ is the fourteenth Harlan Coben title produced for Netflix and is currently filming in the North West of England, particularly in the Manchester area. Quay Street Productions is behind the series, with Nicola Shindler and Richard Fee as executive producers, and Danny Brocklehurst returning as lead writer and executive producer. The creative team remains a trusted unit responsible for some of the streamer’s most engaging British thrillers.

Recent on-set images shared by What’s on Netflix provide a clear look at Keegan as Lucy Silverfield. The photos, taken on Mount Street in Manchester, which has been transformed to resemble a university setting, show Keegan in a navy blue pinstripe blazer and carrying a brown leather bag. The visuals indicate a character with a distinctly different identity from the one Keegan portrayed in ‘Fool Me Once’, and this shift appears to be intentional.

Keegan has described Lucy as a significant departure, stating to Netflix Tudum, “Lucy is a totally different character to Maya,” and elaborating that the character is “a little damaged and never found true peace.” Lucy believed that moving away and building a successful career would allow her to escape her past, only to discover that it is impossible. This emotional depth is something the actress is eager to explore. She also mentioned to Tudum that what excites her most is that Lucy “is dealing with these deep, personal secrets,” which enables her to delve into “her vulnerability and that emotional push and pull.”

In the series, Keegan’s Lucy Silverfield is the first love of Tom Bateman’s character Paul “Cope” Copeland, a top barrister and devoted single father whose sister Camille disappeared from a summer camp twenty years ago. When a man’s body is discovered decades after he was allegedly murdered alongside Camille, Cope becomes convinced that his sister may have survived. He reunites with Lucy to embark on a search that uncovers years of lies, cover-ups, and family secrets.

The cast surrounding Keegan and Bateman is impressive, featuring Mandeep Dhillon, Pearce Quigley, James Buckley, Tom Allen, and Tracy-Ann Oberman, who seems to be reprising her role from the earlier Coben project ‘Run Away’. Harlan Coben, who serves as executive producer through his company Final Twist Productions, described the project as “a haunting and very personal story” centered on “old love and yearning,” calling the assembled cast “an embarrassment of riches.”

No release date for ‘The Woods’ has been confirmed yet, as the series is still actively in production across the UK. Given the insights from the set photos about Keegan’s dedication to the role, the anticipation is only going to grow. If Lucy Silverfield already appears this compelling between takes, let us know in the comments whether you think ‘The Woods’ has the potential to surpass the phenomenon that ‘Fool Me Once’ became.
