Michelle Monaghan Shines with Robert De Niro at NYC Premiere of Netflix’s ‘The Whisper Man’
Netflix has been consistently establishing itself as a powerhouse in adapting bestselling crime novels into high-profile thrillers, and its latest offering features an intriguing pairing. The new film brings together Robert De Niro and a talented ensemble cast, generating significant buzz leading up to its release.
This excitement reached a peak recently as the cast walked the red carpet in New York City. The premiere showcased a star-studded lineup, with the film’s actors posing for photographers ahead of what is anticipated to be one of Netflix’s most discussed releases this fall.
Michelle Monaghan stood out on the red carpet for ‘The Whisper Man,’ Netflix’s adaptation of Alex North’s acclaimed novel. The premiere occurred on August 24 at The Paris Theatre in New York City, where Monaghan joined co-stars Robert De Niro and Adam Scott for a series of photos before mingling with the rest of the cast.
Monaghan captured attention in a stunning floor-length black gown, complemented by a pale pink bralette-style bodice with delicate spaghetti straps. The minimalist design highlighted her figure while maintaining an elegant look. She styled her hair in loose waves and opted for a glossy pink lip, accessorizing with subtle earrings for a refined touch.
‘The Whisper Man’ tells the story of a widowed crime writer whose eight-year-old son goes missing after they move to the small town of Featherbank for a new beginning. In his quest for answers, he reaches out to his estranged father, a retired detective, uncovering a chilling link to a decades-old case involving a serial killer known as The Whisper Man, whose crimes are connected to a haunting playground rhyme.
De Niro stars as Detective Inspector Pete Willis, while Monaghan portrays Detective Amanda Beck, and Adam Scott plays Tom Kennedy, the grieving father at the heart of the investigation. The cast also features Michael Keaton, John Carroll Lynch, Hamish Linklater, and Owen Teague, along with Acston Luca Porto in a young role.
Notably, this film marks the first collaboration between Keaton and De Niro since 1997’s ‘Jackie Brown,’ providing fans of both actors with an exciting reason to tune in. Directed by James Ashcroft, the film is based on a screenplay by Ben Jacoby and Chase Palmer, with Anthony and Joe Russo producing through their AGBO banner alongside Angela Russo-Otstot and Michael Disco.
The project has been in development for several years, with Netflix initially pursuing the adaptation in 2022 and officially announcing it in February 2025. Given AGBO’s history of producing successful genre projects for the platform, including ‘The Electric State,’ expectations for ‘The Whisper Man’ have remained high throughout its journey.
With the film set to premiere on Netflix on August 28, the New York premiere served as a significant promotional event before audiences finally experience whether the film lives up to its impressive cast and unsettling narrative.
