Mike Colter Teases Defenders Reunion in ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Season 3
Marvel’s Netflix-era heroes have lingered in a unique limbo, cherished by fans yet seemingly sidelined from the main MCU narrative after their shows were canceled. This dynamic began to shift when Charlie Cox’s ‘Daredevil’ made a comeback in ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home,’ igniting speculation about whether the other Defenders would eventually return.
The speculation intensified in April when set photos from Brooklyn showed Mike Colter and Finn Jones filming alongside Krysten Ritter for ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Season 3. This sighting all but confirmed the return of Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and Jessica Jones, marking their first on-screen reunion since the less-than-stellar 2017 crossover, ‘The Defenders.’
Colter has shared his thoughts on this long-awaited reunion, likening the excitement surrounding the Defenders’ return to the thrill fans experience when iconic bands reunite after years apart. He mentioned, “There’s always someone who wants to see that greatness,” drawing parallels to Oasis’s reunion after two decades and suggesting that even ABBA could draw crowds if they ever returned.
Colter emphasized that no matter how long it takes, he and the cast will be prepared whenever Marvel decides to bring the team back together. His comments resonate deeply, especially considering how long fans have awaited this moment. Colter, Ritter, and Jones each starred in their own Marvel series during the mid-to-late 2010s, with ‘Jessica Jones’ debuting in 2015, followed by ‘Luke Cage’ in 2016 and ‘Iron Fist’ in 2017, culminating in their team-up in ‘The Defenders’ that same year against the criminal organization known as The Hand.
Despite the crossover’s lukewarm reception, the individual characters have maintained a loyal fanbase, which has only grown as Marvel integrated the original Netflix shows into the official MCU canon. Ritter’s inclusion in ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Season 2 last year served as a promising indication that a broader reunion might finally be on the horizon.
Colter confirmed the reunion back in April by posting a photo with Jones and Ritter on social media, captioning it, “Been a while…,” to which Jones humorously replied that the secret was out. The costumes seen in those set photos hinted that Colter’s Luke Cage has returned to the polished look he sported by the end of his original series, where he took over Harlem’s Paradise nightclub.

‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Season 3 is set to premiere in March 2027, featuring another eight-episode run on Disney+. The new season is expected to pick up six months after the dramatic finale of Season 2, with Matt Murdock in prison due to his past vigilante actions and former New York Mayor Wilson Fisk in exile as he attempts to rebuild his criminal empire.
Given the significance of Fisk’s downfall and Murdock’s imprisonment as the new season unfolds, the return of Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and Jessica Jones may play a crucial role in navigating the aftermath of these storylines. While the extent of the Defenders’ involvement in the season’s overall narrative remains uncertain, their collective presence marks a substantial shift for the franchise.
Colter’s reflections on patience and the long-awaited reunion suggest he views this moment as something to cherish after nearly a decade of uncertainty regarding these characters’ futures. Whether the show will finally deliver the team-up fans have been yearning for since 2017 remains to be seen when Season 3 premieres.
With Daredevil himself notably absent from the recent reunion photos, fans are left speculating how and when Cox’s character will factor into reuniting the group on screen.
