Millie Bobby Brown Shares Update on Upcoming Netflix Project With ‘Stranger Things’ Co-Star David Harbour
Millie Bobby Brown has opened up about the emotional journey of saying goodbye to ‘Stranger Things’. She revealed that the end of the show left her struggling, prompting her to reach out to her co-stars to ensure their friendships remained intact.
During a live recording of the Happy Sad Confused podcast at 92NY, host Josh Horowitz engaged Brown in a discussion about life after the Netflix series and addressed the lingering question fans have: what really happened to Eleven?
Brown shared that she is aware of Eleven’s true fate but is bound by confidentiality. The show’s creators, Matt and Ross Duffer, reached out to her post-finale, reminding her to keep the secret.
“They were like, ‘Do not tell anyone. Because we made it a secret kind of pledge,’” Brown recounted. “No one else knows. It’s just us three. And what we do with that information, it’ll be up to them.”
This mystery has sparked considerable debate among fans, many of whom refuse to accept that Eleven is gone. Brown mentioned that she watched the online reactions with her husband, Jake Bongiovi, and noted that even her castmates have differing opinions on the matter.
“Jake was like, ‘Ooh, these are really split.’ And the whole cast thinks I’m dead,” Brown joked. “One, rude. It’s so rude of them. There’s something to it, surely. You guys are projecting!”
Not all cast members agree on Eleven’s fate. David Harbour, who portrayed Jim Hopper, previously told Variety that he believes Eleven’s ending was clear. He argued that a child with supernatural powers could not realistically exist in Hawkins.
“A lot of people think maybe she’s in Spain or whatever,” Harbour explained. “But right from the very beginning of that series — we love this little girl, but you really can’t have a little girl in Hawkins, Indiana, with supernatural powers running around. She just cannot exist.”
Sadie Sink also weighed in during her appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, suggesting that Mike Wheeler’s ending was more about coming to terms with the end of childhood.
“Mike’s story is just one last story, and then they say goodbye to childhood,” Sink stated.
Conversely, Noah Schnapp seemed to have a different perspective. At a fan event, he asked the audience if they believed Eleven was dead. When fans reacted, he confidently shook his head, stating, “No, she’s alive.”
The audience at Brown’s podcast appearance appeared to share that hopeful sentiment. When Horowitz polled the crowd on whether they believed Eleven survived, approximately 80 to 90 percent raised their hands.
“We have a hopeful audience,” Brown remarked. “I love that!” Beyond the mystery of Eleven, Brown also discussed the emotional challenges of leaving ‘Stranger Things’. She admitted to experiencing a tough emotional period after the series concluded.
“I went into a little bit of a slight, slight depression,” she revealed. “It was very hard for me. I would not have expected that coming off of the show. I’m a very happy-go-lucky person.”
Brown mentioned that she spent January reconnecting with her ‘Stranger Things’ co-stars to address any unresolved issues and ensure their relationships continued.
“They probably thought I was crazy,” she said. “I was like, ‘We’re still friends, right? Like, you’re not gonna stop talking to me anymore?’ I was like, ‘I’m sorry if I ever upset you,’ and was just trying to mend anything.”
For Brown, the cast became more than just colleagues. Having started the series at age 10, she grew up alongside her co-stars.
“I started the show when I was 10, and this character was me, and these people were in my life more than my own family,” she explained.
She expressed that saying goodbye to Eleven was one of the hardest moments of her life. “Saying goodbye to that after 10 years was a very, very emotional thing, and I’m going to miss Eleven more than anything.”
Although ‘Stranger Things’ has concluded, Brown hinted at a potential collaboration with Harbour in another Netflix project. She described the plans as already in motion, teasing, “Father-daughter is where we live, but Netflix will always be our home.”
She later added that the David Harbour project is happening sooner than anticipated, stating, “And it’s David’s idea, so kudos to him.”
