Milly Alcock Shines at ‘Supergirl’ LA Screening Ahead of Release
With less than three weeks remaining until one of DC Studios’ most awaited films hits theaters, Milly Alcock made a memorable appearance at the Los Angeles special screening of ‘Supergirl,’ reminding everyone that the Girl of Steel is very much here.
The event, widely shared by Film Updates and Media Updates on social media, quickly garnered attention, marking the ramping up of promotional efforts for what is poised to be a significant moment for the rebooted DC Universe.
Directed by Craig Gillespie and written by Ana Nogueira, ‘Supergirl’ follows Kara Zor-El as she reluctantly teams up with an unexpected ally on a cosmic journey of vengeance and justice after a merciless foe strikes close to home. The film comes with a reported budget of 170 million dollars and is set to be the second installment in DC Studios’ new DCU chapter, with Warner Bros. Pictures handling distribution.
Alcock, who gained fame for her role in HBO’s ‘House of the Dragon,’ has openly discussed the pressure she felt stepping into such a legendary role. She admitted to grappling with impostor syndrome after being cast, stating, “I thought, ‘what have I done?’ I really struggled to believe I could do it. I even called the director saying ‘I don’t know how to be that person. I’m just me.’” However, her appearance at the LA screening radiated confidence, indicating that Kara Zor-El is in capable hands.
In a recent interview with Empire, Alcock elaborated on what differentiates her character from her more famous cousin, explaining, “She’s such a good contrast to Superman, because she’s a survivor of trauma in the purest sense. I was excited to play someone so beautifully flawed and resilient.” This perspective has become central to the film’s identity, with Gillespie promising a version of the character that is punky, edgy, and unrefined, setting her apart from the optimistic heroics seen in last year’s ‘Superman.’
Alcock stars as Kara alongside Jason Momoa, who portrays Lobo, as the two leads embark on an interstellar adventure that also involves rescuing the beloved pup Krypto. The cast further includes Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll, Matthias Schoenaerts as the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills, David Krumholtz, Emily Beecham, and David Corenswet reprising his role as Superman.
Kara is also set to appear in the 2027 Superman sequel, ‘Man of Tomorrow,’ indicating that her journey within the broader DCU is just beginning. For now, however, the spotlight is firmly on Alcock, whose presence at the LA screening highlights the significance of her performance. ‘Supergirl’ is set to open in theaters and IMAX across North America on June 26, with international audiences gaining access starting June 24.
