Miranda Cosgrove Edi Patterson and Ali Wong Join ‘Abbott Elementary’ as Guest Stars
Few network sitcoms have made guest appearances a hallmark quite like ‘Abbott Elementary’. Since its debut, Quinta Brunson’s Philadelphia school comedy has featured a wide array of guests, from beloved actors to local sports stars, and even Gritty, making every episode a potential surprise.
This season marks a significant milestone, as Season 6 premiered on ABC on October 7 with the episode ‘Jungle Classroom’, running for a total of 22 episodes. The series has garnered 30 Emmy nominations and 4 wins, solidifying its place in ABC’s scripted lineup.
The new season is set to welcome more familiar faces. Deadline has reported that Miranda Cosgrove, Edi Patterson, and Ali Wong will guest star in upcoming episodes, although details about their roles remain a mystery.
The timing is particularly noteworthy as ‘Abbott Elementary’ approaches its 100th episode, which was recently filmed at Disneyland. The announcement of these guest stars suggests that the show is preparing something special for this landmark occasion.
For Cosgrove, this is a fun parallel to her past. She is best known for her role as Carly Shay on ‘iCarly’, which celebrated its 100th produced episode in its sixth season, making it the first Nickelodeon live-action sitcom to achieve that milestone. Now, she joins another comedy reaching its own 100-episode landmark.
The sixth season has already made a strong impression, with the premiere featuring cameos from several Philadelphia 76ers players, including Tyrese Maxey and VJ Edgecombe. Brunson has also brought numerous Eagles players onto the show for guest roles, leading fans to speculate about which sports star might appear next.
The guest list over the years has been impressively diverse. Past seasons have included Taraji P. Henson, Hamilton star Leslie Odom Jr., and the Philly mascot Gritty. Set in Philadelphia, the show naturally attracts local actors, athletes, and musicians eager to participate.

The new season picks up after a dramatic fifth-season finale, where the fictional School District of Philadelphia nearly closed Abbott Elementary, only reversing its decision due to the expenses incurred fixing the building’s furnace. Students from the closed schools are now transferring to Abbott, and Gregory, portrayed by Tyler James Williams, is stepping up as assistant principal to manage the influx.
The finale also hinted at a possible proposal for the recently reunited Gregory and Janine. The season’s cast includes Brunson, Williams, Janelle James, Lisa Ann Walter, Chris Perfetti, William Stanford Davis, and Emmy winner Sheryl Lee Ralph. With multiple storylines in play, it’s easy to envision how a trio of comedy veterans could fit into the mix.

Patterson and Wong are both well-known in the comedy scene, adding to the excitement. With no character details disclosed, fans are left to speculate about the roles the trio will play, whether as parents, school district officials, or something entirely different. The show has frequently utilized guest roles to explore new dynamics, so these new faces could certainly shake things up.
The next two episodes are titled ‘Check-Ins’ and ‘Tryouts’, set to air on October 14 and October 21. New episodes air Wednesdays at 8:30 p.m. ET on ABC and are available for streaming on Hulu.
