Miyako, who portrays Toph Beifong, has completed filming her final scenes for the Netflix adaptation of ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’, as the series is set to conclude after season 3.

The show has been crafted to mirror the original animated narrative, which also wrapped up in its third season. Despite this planned conclusion, fans are already speculating about the potential return of beloved characters like Toph in future endeavors.

In a recent interview, Miyako candidly discusses this possibility. While nothing is officially confirmed, she acknowledges the fan enthusiasm for seeing more of Toph after the series ends. She humorously remarks on the challenges of reprising the role later in life, joking, “It’s a stretch to ask Netflix and the production team to wait until I’m 90-something years old to play the older version of her.”

Miyako also considers the idea of another actor stepping into Toph’s shoes if the character reappears in future stories. She light-heartedly mentions her height, suggesting they might need to “find another person short enough” to embody the character. Her playful tone reflects her thoughts on how the role could evolve beyond her portrayal.

Furthermore, Miyako reflects on Toph’s journey across various iterations of the Avatar universe. She references comics and subsequent tales that delve into Toph’s life post-original series, including her role as a mentor, her family, and her impact on the next generation. She appreciates how these narratives broaden the character’s world, even if the live-action series won’t explore them.

She states, “I feel like the comics are a really great insight into what happens after Avatar but before Korra.” This indicates her understanding of the character’s extensive story beyond the Netflix adaptation.

At the same time, she believes Toph’s primary storyline is already robust and complete. She highlights how the character trains formidable figures, forges her own path, and eventually starts a family. In her view, Toph has a fulfilling arc that stands strong on its own.

Miyako also discusses the concept of passing the character on to another actor. She expresses her support for new performers taking on the role in different adaptations. She describes this as a “passing of the torch,” appreciating how she was welcomed into the role by those who came before her.

While she remains open to future opportunities, she does not confirm any plans to reprise her role. The current Netflix adaptation is focused on completing the original story, with season 3 expected to conclude that narrative.

For now, Miyako’s remarks suggest that while she takes pride in portraying Toph, she views the character as part of a larger universe that can continue in various forms, even if her own narrative concludes with the final season.
