‘Moon Knight’ Creator Jeremy Slater Explains Departure from the Series
Jeremy Slater, the creator and head writer of ‘Moon Knight’, has shared insights into his departure from the series during its production. His comments emerged from a recent interview covered in entertainment discussions regarding the making of the Marvel Studios show.
Slater revealed that creative differences were the primary reason for his exit. He noted that he and the director had contrasting visions for the show, which ultimately led to his decision to step away before the project progressed under a unified direction.
He stated: “I left the project over creative disagreements with the director. The two of us simply had very different visions on what the show should be about. Ultimately, he won that creative battle, so I stepped away.”
The series is part of the broader Marvel Cinematic Universe, telling a complex story about Marc Spector and Steven Grant, two personalities inhabiting one body. It blends superhero action with psychological themes and elements of Egyptian mythology.
Oscar Isaac leads the cast, portraying both Marc Spector and Steven Grant, alongside May Calamawy and Ethan Hawke, among others. Produced by Marvel Studios, the show is a key part of its Disney+ lineup.
Upon its release, the show garnered strong reviews, with critics praising the performances, particularly Isaac’s dual role, and its darker tone compared to other Marvel offerings. Many highlighted its thoughtful approach to mental health themes and identity.
There has been ongoing speculation about the character’s future. While some Marvel executives have hinted that ‘Moon Knight’ could make a comeback in upcoming projects, a second season has yet to be officially confirmed.
Slater also commented on the potential for future appearances, noting that Isaac’s contract allows him to select projects based on his creative interests. This means the character’s future isn’t strictly predetermined.
He added that he has not been part of recent discussions regarding the character’s return, leading him to believe he won’t be involved in future ‘Moon Knight’ projects unless circumstances change.

Meanwhile, Marvel Studios continues to keep the door open for the character’s return, with discussions about ‘Moon Knight’ potentially appearing in a new series or crossover within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
For now, Slater’s comments shed light on the behind-the-scenes dynamics that led to his exit, as the series moved forward under a different creative vision that resonated with audiences on Disney+.
