Superman enthusiasts have plenty to celebrate this summer as ‘My Adventures with Superman’ continues its eagerly awaited third season, delivering twist after twist as the animated series delves deeper into some of the character’s most iconic comic book narratives. After a nearly two-year hiatus between seasons, the show has returned with renewed vigor, incorporating elements from DC’s beloved Reign of the Supermen arc while maintaining its signature mix of romance, comedy, and superhero action.

The momentum has only intensified as the season unfolds. Season three has introduced Cyborg Superman, Superboy, and Steel into Clark Kent’s ever-expanding universe, while also heightening the emotional stakes for Lois, Jimmy, and Kara as they navigate both superhero challenges and the complexities of adult life.

The season premiered to a flawless one hundred percent score on Rotten Tomatoes, indicating that the creative team’s ambitious new direction has resonated with critics right from the start.

Now, a fresh trailer has been released, teasing the upcoming seventh episode of the season, titled ‘Ex-Games,’ which confirms the return of one of the show’s most chaotic and beloved villains. Mr. Mxyzptlk, the fifth-dimensional trickster who previously pulled Clark, Lois, and Jimmy into a multiverse-hopping adventure earlier in the series, is officially back, and this time he is bringing along his soon-to-be-divorced wife.

This family drama angle adds an unexpectedly personal twist to Mxyzptlk’s return, providing the imp’s chaos with a more grounded emotional core than in his previous appearance. According to early reviews of the episode, the storyline allows Clark, Lois, Jimmy, and Kara to confront questions about their own futures, using Mxyzptlk’s marital troubles as an unlikely reflection of the show’s central relationships as the season progresses.

‘Ex-Games’ is part of the show’s ongoing weekly rollout, with new episodes airing on Adult Swim’s Toonami block every Saturday at midnight before streaming the following day on HBO Max. The season kicked off on June 13, and with ten episodes in total, this installment arrives roughly two-thirds of the way through the season, setting the stage for what critics have described as an increasingly emotional and action-packed final stretch.

Mxyzptlk’s return also continues a trend the show has embraced since its first season, where the character has repeatedly served as a means to explore the broader DC multiverse in playful, unpredictable ways. His original appearance saw him physically transform Clark into various versions of Superman while pulling Lois and Jimmy into an entirely different reality, and his comeback in ‘Ex-Games’ suggests the show is not finished exploring that multiversal chaos for both comedic and deeper character development.

Showrunner Jake Wyatt has been vocal about the ambitions behind this season, confirming in earlier interviews that the creative team drew directly from the 1990s Reign of the Supermen comics for much of the season’s structure. That inspiration has already paid off with the introductions of Cyborg Superman and Superboy earlier in the season, and Mxyzptlk’s return indicates the show is not abandoning its penchant for stranger, more comedic detours even as the stakes continue to rise elsewhere.

With the season’s finale still a few weeks away, ‘Ex-Games’ appears set to be one of the more surprising entries in an already eventful run, blending Mxyzptlk’s trademark unpredictability with genuine emotional stakes for the show’s core cast. Fans eager to see how Clark and his friends handle both cosmic chaos and their own uncertain futures won’t have to wait long.
