NCIS Season 24 Cast Changes: Major Shifts Ahead for the Team

‘NCIS’ is gearing up for its 24th season with significant changes anticipated within the Major Case Response Team, following a season filled with emotional arcs and a gripping cliffhanger.

The conclusion of Season 23 left viewers on edge, as the team grappled with the fallout from several pivotal events. This season featured unexpected reunions, including the return of Ellie Bishop, alongside the death of Director Leon Vance, which created a leadership void within the agency. The finale also shifted focus to more personal narratives among the team, delving deeper into long-standing character relationships.

A major turning point occurred in the final episode titled “Sons and Daughters,” which ended on a cliffhanger involving Timothy McGee’s secret son, Mateo. This storyline hinted at Mateo’s potential connection to dubious activities that could jeopardize the agency. Nick Torres was the first to sense something amiss, leading to a confrontation that culminated in a gunshot, leaving fans eager for answers as Season 24 approaches.

Despite the dramatic conclusion, ‘NCIS’ showrunner Steven D. Binder has confirmed that no main characters will perish as a result of the shooting. However, this does not imply that the team will remain unchanged moving forward.

Wilmer Valderrama, who portrays Nick Torres, recently discussed the upcoming season during an appearance at the 2026 Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival. While he was cautious not to divulge too many spoilers, he hinted that viewers should prepare for significant shifts when the show returns.

He stated, “Look, every couple of years, you guys know ‘NCIS’ has to make sure you’re watching. So we shake up the TV a little bit and we listen. And we listen to where you as fans want to see us do. So we always really pay attention to what our fans want to really experience on the show.”

Valderrama also suggested that the new season will introduce noticeable changes to the team structure. He added, “Next season, there’s some major changes and there are some major additions.” He even joked about the uncertainty surrounding his own character, saying, “What does that mean for Torres? I can only hope that he makes it out alive.”

The death of Vance has created a power vacuum within ‘NCIS’, and this opening is expected to play a crucial role in the new season. A returning antagonist, Gabriel LaRoche, is also anticipated to exploit the situation as leadership struggles unfold within the agency.

The finale also saw the return of Kayla, Vance’s eldest daughter, adding another emotional dimension to the storyline. Meanwhile, questions linger about whether CBS will introduce entirely new characters to bolster the team moving forward.

Currently, the core ‘NCIS’ team includes Alden Parker as the leader, along with agents McGee, Torres, and Jessica Knight, as well as support staff Kasie Hines and Jimmy Palmer. Season 24 may expand this lineup, potentially altering the long-standing structure of the series.

‘NCIS’ has undergone several transformations throughout its lengthy run, particularly after the exit of longtime lead Leroy Jethro Gibbs. With new leadership already established and the possibility of new agents joining the team, Season 24 seems poised to mark another significant chapter in the show’s history.
