Netflix has officially renewed ‘The Four Seasons’ for a third season, continuing its exploration of friendship, love, and the complexities of middle-aged relationships.

This announcement was made by Jinny Howe, Netflix’s Head of Scripted Series for the U.S. and Canada, during the BANFF World Media Festival on Monday morning, as reported by Netflix and event coverage.

Created by Tina Fey, Lang Fisher, and Tracey Wigfield, the comedy series follows a close-knit group of friends who gather during various vacations and life events. Each season is divided into four parts, representing spring, summer, fall, and winter.

Season 3 will maintain the same structure as its predecessors, featuring eight episodes divided into four two-episode arcs. Each arc will highlight a different seasonal reunion and the evolving dynamics among the friends.

The main cast is set to return, including Tina Fey, Will Forte, Kerri Kenney-Silver, Marco Calvani, Erika Henningsen, and Colman Domingo. Erika Henningsen, who had a smaller role in Season 2, will now be a full series regular in the upcoming season.

One of the significant storylines for Season 3 involves David Tennant’s character, Gianpiero, who made a surprise cameo in the Season 2 finale. He portrays a neighbor in Italy and may become a potential love interest for Anne, played by Kerri Kenney-Silver. However, his complete involvement in Season 3 remains unconfirmed.

Co-creators Tina Fey, Lang Fisher, and Tracey Wigfield expressed their excitement about the renewal, stating, “We are thrilled to be able to bring a third season of ‘The Four Seasons’ to life. Thank you to everyone who watched. Middle-aged people, LFG!”

The series is inspired by the 1981 film of the same name by Alan Alda. Since its premiere, the Netflix adaptation has garnered a steady audience and received positive critical feedback. Season 1 debuted in May 2025, quickly becoming a major hit with 24.4 million views in its first two weeks, reaching No. 1 on Netflix’s English TV chart.

Season 2, which premiered more recently, experienced a noticeable decline in viewership. It debuted at No. 3 on the Netflix chart with 4.4 million views in its opening week, significantly lower than Season 1. Although it saw a slight increase in its second week, overall numbers remained below those of the first season.

Despite the decline in views, the show has continued to receive critical acclaim. Season 2 achieved a 90% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, surpassing Season 1’s 78%. Critics have consistently praised the chemistry among the cast and the blend of humor with emotional storytelling.

Netflix executives have also commended the series for its tone and connection with audiences. Tracey Pakosta, Netflix VP of U.S. Comedy, remarked, “It’s been a joy watching the chaotic, beautiful journey of these lifelong friends. Tina Fey, Lang Fisher, and Tracey Wigfield have a magical way of blending heart and sharp humor, making us feel like part of the inner circle.”

While production details for Season 3 have yet to be disclosed, the return of the core cast and the anticipation of new storylines indicate that Netflix is committed to the long-term future of the show.
